Motorola DROID 2 user guide leaks, cases spotted

mobile

Man, how much longer can Motorola and Verizon Wireless try and keep the lid on the DROID 2? Earlier today, Droid-Life obtained a user guide for the yet-to-be-released DROID 2 as well as an image of DROID 2 cases on sale at Best Buy. The user guide reveals that the device will have Motorola’s UI enhancements — same as the DROID X — and will in all likelihood be launching with Android 2.2; as opposed to Android 2.1. We’ve heard August 3rd tossed around as a potential launch date (Verizon likes to launch handsets on Tuesdays). Come on Verizon, kick the flood gates open already!

    • vzw_and_lovin_it

  • jay

this is my new phone. awesome.

  • Todd

It looks like the dpad has been replaced by navigation keys. Should make for a better keyboard.

  • Woozle Wuzzle

awesome. gotta love a qwerty keyboard and a touchscreen with froyo

  • hemdroid

I hope it maintains the Droid 1′s awesome speaker!

    Give engadget credit for this.

I don’t know where August 3rd came from, but that would be great. Then I would have it in time for a trip, but as of right now, I’ll only have the case and the manual.

I’ve only heard the 12th or the 23rd.

Its Okay rather have stock UI tho.

With the broken Android operating system and all of its different versions, hard to get excited about this. Another phone with state of the art features that can’t even make a decent call.

    • Hallo

aww, here is a very special “-1″ for a very special boy.

“With the broken Iphone 4 antenna and its failed software fix, hard to get excited about this. Another phone with state of the art features that can’t even make a decent call.”

There I fixed it for you Skip.

      • Skip Patterson

iPhone has hardware issues, where Android has software issues across all versions and devices. It’s sad how people with Android phones have to attack anyone who dares to suggest the operating system has faults. You lot were probably the morons that made up the low IQ fanbase of iPhone previously.

      • Haruspex

It’s a damn phone, not a holy war. Get over it.

      • ckeegan

Hell of a lot easier to fix software issues than it is to fix hardware issues; wouldn’t ya say?

      • Skip Patterson

How about releasing a phone that didn’t have issues to fix in the first place?

But of course if you all could figure that one out, you wouldn’t be Android users, would you?

      • Dave Brown

And you’re so damn smart you would build a flawless phone?

  • Asad

I only know one thing that it’s better than the original Droid, finally 2.2

  • DROIDpad

    Physical keyboards are for pussies.

  • Alex

Gotta love all the Android tards that are so thin skinned they have to insult and downrank any comments that don’t fellatio their broken OS.

    • Orga

The word’s fellate, just to be a word whore real quick.

That said, if this phone drops before I can get hold of a Droid X, I see no reason to wait. QWERTY keyboard, a nice-sized screen, and FroYo means it’ll run even faster.

As far as Moto’s skinning efforts? I’m one launcher app away from not having to worry about it.

But, by all means, let’s turn every single post about an Android or Apple phone into a holy war. It’s clear that you’ll be able to change everyone’s minds if you just shout at them long enough.

      Internet: serious business.

  • dylan

Here is the great thing software issues can be fixed as where hardware has to recalled or hold it different or a case….I guess that iPhone isn’t so thin now

  • dylan

Oh yea hella easier lol….what r these software issues I’ve owned 3 android phones and never had one software issue…but i guess when ur use to having an ibrick a true smartphone is hard to handle lol

  • VZWer

I’d rather wait for the Samsung Galaxy which will drop around Sept. Pass on the physical keyboard and it’s added thickness to the device.

    • Dream

Yup I rather Wait for A Beautiful 4in Super Amoled Screen, then waiting for a Droid Remix.

  • Phonascus

My 1 yr upgrade (main line on family plan) is on Monday. I was ready to pull the trigger on the DX…now, I don’t know. Decisions, decisions….

    • Topher86

Get the DroidX…I hear the keyboard is pretty awesome

  • webby

“Verizon likes to launch handsets on Tuesdays” ???

Then who screwed up and launched the Droid X on a Thursday, BGR?

    • vzGUY

Never had any new phone released on Tuesdays!!! Always on Thursdays!!! At least the 5 years I have been their.

  • LCW

    Qwerty FTW
Droid 2 > Droid X for that reason

  • Sash

Booooooooooo…..Gotta go with the DinC sorry moto

  • b squared

I love my og droid but dammit I want this one so bad. Its just the droid one on steroids and better looking.

  • Droid X

After a long ass process of false order confirmations and misleading delivery dates my DX just arrived on Wednesday and Im loving it. VZW got a new line and 2 early upgrades because friends were so much in awe. Whats my commission on $600 + cost of accessories? LOL!

Actually the manager of the store I go to just gave me pretty much all the DX accessories I need for 60% off b/c of it. Threw 40% on top of the discount I already get. Plus, got a $100 credit on my account previously for phone not coming on promised date.
VZW looked out in the long run.

Just had to share my story. The D2 looks amazing as well. Can’t lose by getting the DX, D2, or upcoming Samsung phone. They are all BEASTS.

    Ex-Droidinary!!!!
