Research In Motion registers blackpad.com domain name

This whole pad term is still a mystery to us… anyway… it appears as though Research In Motion has legally registered the domain name blackpad.com. As you can see from the above screen capture, the Waterloo company first registered the name on July 8, 2010. The filing adds fuel to the rumor fire that RIM is concocting some sort of tablet-slab-pad thing that will serve as a companion to its BlackBerry smartphone devices. BlackPad… yikes. Which name do you think is worse, iPad or BlackPad?

    My god, I can only imagine the marketing meeting for this…

    “Okay, so Apple has iPad, ok that sells, so uh, how about …drum roll please…..Blackpad, get it guys, Blackpad. It’s like Apples but with Black in it..cause our name has black in it.”

    BlackPad is worse…then again, BlackBerryPad would be even worse…and BerryPad even worse yet…and StormPad even worse yet…

    ianything is getting very very tiresome indeed so this could be a refreshing change of course or…..this could end up like the S1 and be the butt of countless ijokes (oops)

    Would they have called it something else if Apple hadn’t called theirs the iPad? BlackPad doesn’t sound very nice. Maybe BerryPad? Or why not just name it something entirely different like BlueBerry? If you call it somethingPad from the start you’ve pretty much already conceded that it’s a me-too product.

    I’m going to with bad name here. I can’t get over associating the name with something like it being the secret hideout of the superhero in some cheesy blacksplotation film from the 70s.
