BlackBerry rumors: Verizon, T-Mobile to EOL Curve 8500, Verizon to EOL Storm 2 9550, 9780 to be Bold

mobile

This isn’t exactly shocking news, but we thought we would share anyway. BBLeaks is reporting that Verizon Wireless will give the BlackBerry Storm 2 9550 and the BlackBerry Curve 8530 their end-of-life papers on August 15th and August 1st respectively. The move comes as Verizon makes room in its inventory for newer BlackBerry devices; BBLeaks reports that replacements for the 9550 and 8530 are due out in Q3/Q4 (which is a pretty large 6-month window). The 8530 is likely going to be replaced by the 9300 series, and we’ve heard grumblings from sources that an updated Storm, the Storm 3, will follow the Storm 2 (although we haven’t been able to pin this one down).

PocketBerry is reporting that T-Mobile has ceased shipments of the BlackBerry Curve 8500 series to retail stores and should be rolling out the new Curve 9300 series to its customer base within the next few months.

And finally, driphter.com got a few snap shots of the BlackBerry 9780; which will purportedly fal into the “Bold” family. The device is very Bold 9700 looking with 512 Mb of RAM and BlackBerry 6. We’ve got a few images of the leaked handset after the jump.

There you have it!

      You sir are an idiot.

    • Bla1ze

      No, only Windows ME. ;)

I don’t see the point in Verizon halting 8530 sales since there’s basically no substantial difference with the new Curve series, especially for CDMA models since it already has 3G.

The sole purpose for RIM to give EOL for 8530 is simply because they lack forward thinking.

Had they include 512MB of memory, they don’t need to do this.

I recently upgraded to 9700 and now 9780 is around the corner. Thanks a lot RIM for short-selling me!!!!

A technology company released a new, better product. Waaaah!

At least the 9780 is showing bands 1, 4, 8… Which means T-Mo

Well looks like I will be replacing my Storm2 too well its ok I will be getting the 9800slider or the Storm3 based on the specs.. RIM sucks OS 6 won’t be available for the Bold 9700 which has the same specs as the Storm 2 so in short all the Bold 9700 and Storm 2 users are f**ked. @ RIM at least update the browser and include the new webkit browser on those two handsets.

RIM was starting to slip to far back. They saw the writing on the wall and are updating their Blackberries.
Looking forward to the BB OS6. Way over due!
BTW: there are those that spend upwards of $2,000
on a desk top computer only to have it become outdated after 6 months.

Blackberry is launching very high definition smartphone for their users. They are trying bringing revolutions in the world of smartphones. They are trying to over come the market and they also providing very tough competition with their other competaters.

    who cares!!!

  • ohmy

9780 is what Im looking “forward” to?

    Really Rim?

OS6 and minor bump in memory….from my 9700???
I know about your ticky tack updates but cmon, this is even a lil more ridiculous even for you guys.

How about a touchscreen with the bold keypad, snapdragon and more memory. Keep the phone the same size and better integrate multimedia functions while keeping the security

yes, i want it all, im a greedy consumer! :)

Personally, and this is just my opinion, I think RIM is going to need to do much more than just update their devices/hardware.

I’ll be the first to admit that the earlier days of smartphones required a premium hardware brand. Those times have come and gone. The name of the game is software. More importantly, app development.

Unfortunately, RIMs at a disadvantage. They’re staring down the barrel of a gun held by two companies with a combined market cap. of more than 400 billion dollars. Even if Microsoft saves them (years down the road), MSFT can’t innovate their way out of a wet paper bag.

RIM’s sales numbers are impressive. But, that growth is slowing. There aren’t too many companies who ever recover from declining sales .

Don’t get me wrong, I love RIM. I’m Canadian. I had a 7250 back in the day and absolutely loved it. I just think they’re going to have to do more than refresh the existing hardware/design, push out a new OS version or develop a tablet that just catches up to Cupertino.

$400 Billion = Google (Android) and Apple (iOS)
