RIM continues to taunt, shows off more BlackBerry 6 screenshots

General

RIM has posted some additional screen shots of their yet-to-be-released-or-have-a-release-date-announced BlackBerry 6 operating system. You may recall that earlier in the month RIM provided a few screen shots displaying some of BlackBerry 6′s media capabilities. This particular post is from Douglas Soltys, he interviews RIM’s Director in the User Experience group, Joey Benedek, who shows off the new OS’ “home screen evolution.” Hit the read link to see all the goodies, and do let us know what you think.

This UI is 10x sexier than that ugly stock UI for Android. You Android users are constantly complaining about BB. I think you guys are worst than the Iphone bunch. Sound like raging nerds trying to convince me that something you like is better than the rest. OS 6 looks just fine so as long as the UI is smooth and intuitive.

Listen Guys, while the blackberry OS may be less flashy and simpler than both android and the iphone I wish everyone would look at the worldwide sales figures

Its pretty tough to say that a company that sold 34.5 million phones last year doesn’t know what they are doing.

They know there core competency’s lie in the messaging and email department and they will dominate the business market because of this.

Let android and the Iphone battle it out for the consumer market.

What BB will run this new fancy OS it sure aint the BB Tour 9630 from Sprint it’s a piece of crap!!!

Its still a boring RIM device though. Rumors are the hardware isnt changing much. Huge Enterprise companies who used to say security, security, security are not sanctioning Android and Iphone because thier users want to use what is cool. RIM is basically a pager with band-aids all over it. I think its nice they are taking a step forward but they are getting smoked on innovation. They need to figure out how to make a huge leap forward and do it fast because they are shipping a lot of phones but losing marketshare like crazy to Android and Iphone

I love Blackberry, I truly love blackberry. But they are lagging behind and only “entice” me with a few pictures but will not announce new phones or when this new OS will be released and what phones it will be compatible.

My VZW contract is up in 2 weeks, and if I do not see anything that indicates otherwise, I am moving onto Android. In this age, when is it even acceptable to have some screen shots for marketing? This wreaks of an unfinished or really glitchy OS. I should know about issues, I was one of the early adopters of the Storm.

    • E__P

You realize RIM doesn’t require marketing right?

      • Tom

“Marketing” can be defined as however you want it to be but the fact of the matter is that they introduced a new OS but have not given ANY updates. I suspect and anticipate that the photos are calculated and the OS release is imminet but I find it to be more of an annoyance than anything positive.

If you do not believe these pictures are part of marketing or the huge billboards in major cities about BBM are not marketing than you have no clue what you are talking about. I forgot that they don’t need marketing since they have the support of the Black Eyed Peas and Blackberry make nifty videos of people dancing.

      • therodt

Thank you Tom. Lets not forget that U2 tour crap they paid for . Yeah like anyone believed that nonsense..

      • btdown

Who do you think is leaking these pics and videos? RIM is deathly afraid of their shrinking market share to the likes of Iphone and Android.

  • Melvin

I am a Nexus One Android owner and I think the BB UI looks slick. At the very least, it looks consistent throughout.

    RIM is not dead.

      …yet….

    More unimpressive vaporware from RIM.

  • Steve

I don’t know how much RIM are paying their new CMO from Coke, but if the BBM commercials coupled with these screen shots released every few weeks is the extent of his marketing plan to support RIM’s future, then they’re obviously not getting much creativity or wow factor for their money. Pity!

  • Len

RIM is taking it slow and steady. You have to realize that their core market is corporate, which is very different than the consumer market. Consumer want updates, changes and improvements quickly because the consumer market is impatient and needs something to keep them excited.

RIM cannot operate this way or else they will alienate their corporate users. Businesses don’t like change, they like reliability, familiarity. This is because they need employees to be efficient.

But actually, now that I think about it, what exactly has Apple and Google done to their OS throughout the years other than add minor features which the BlackBerry has had for years?

Honestly some of you need to lay off the kool-aid. Ask 10 random people on the street what Android is, I doubt over 4 of them would know. Then ask 10 others what a BlackBerry is… point proven.

  • Blue_Mountain

I switched from Blackberry Bold to iPhone 4 and I really miss the “true push” technology of Blackberry.

I got excited with the apps after 3-4 weeks but the excitement waned.

Im hoping the UI will be smooth and the web browser is comparable to iPhone in OS6 so I can go back to BBerry again.

  • BleezyD

Can we files this under, ” News we could care less about?” RIM is so irrelevant these days. Their whole OS is way dated and their phones are boring and featureless. They should stick to enterprise business solutions only.

  • pjcamp

    No more Blackberry.

As soon as I see a half way decent Android HSPA+ phone, my Curve is hitting the trash can.

I am tired of the sync dance: change your default email client to Outlook because otherwise BB desktop can’t find it; sync your BB with your desktop; change your default email client back to Thunderbird because Outlook is a piece of crap.

There is no reason that Outlook has to be my default email client in order for Blackberry to synchronize my calendar. That’s crazy. I should be able to tell it where the Outlook data file is and have it sync without this ridiculous dance. But here we are in version 5.whatever of the desktop software and still the assumption is that everyone does and should use Outlook for everything. Even Microsoft doesn’t do that any more.

The new os looks wicked imo. Are we gonna see it on a bold form-factor anytime soon? I personally like the ole fat candybar….. though the slider pics do look pretty slick

  • iamajim

i wish this slider was coming to big red

  • Justin Credible

I agree with what many sentiments here. This is RIM’s truly FIRST entrance into the serious consumer market. The game is only just beginning, and RIM’s leading market share gives them a definite advantage right off the starting line.

Blackberries will no doubt remain #1 for a long time to come, Can’t wait for the 9800!!

    • btdown

I’m waiting for it to0…but lets see it for what is is…nothing new on the hardware side, other than the novelty of a slider, and the 6.0 OS, is barely evolutionary.

  • joe

    Rim = nokia…dying

I will moving to android phone soon

If you like that big ugly enhanced buzzer than stay with rim

    • Alan B

LOL, Nokia and RIM are dying? Nokia sold over 64 million phones in Q1. RIM maintains a consistent 40%+ of the U.S. market. Dying, hardly. We will see a marketplace split up with quality products running iOS, Symbian, Android and BB OS. FINALLY, we have real choices.
