I hope this means the Incredible will be back in stock when I’m eligible for upgrade in September.

    • Andrew Munchbach

Curiously, they didn’t mention the Incredible the in the press release… which makes me wonder.

      • Brad

Eh, that doesn’t bother me. After all, do you think they’re really going to list every single phone model in their lineup that this applies to in a press release? The Incredible is essentially just a CDMA version of the Desire, and uses the exact same screen, so I’m sure it will get the same treatment. I’m guessing they mentioned the Desire because it’s sold world-wide, as opposed to the Incredible, which is only sold in the US. It’s just a much more visible model to mention in a press release.

Well they must be having Trouble with regular LCD screens as well, because the EVO has been out of stock since it was released…

Your headline and article are misleading. None of the HTC phones used Super AMOLED screens and there is no shortage of those. (See all variants of Samsung’s Galaxy S) The shortage is for AMOLED screens, which these phones and the Incredible all used. Super LCD = AMOLED… NOT Super LCD = Super AMOLED.

    • Andrew Munchbach

      Hey Eric–

I removed my reference to “super” in the article. I’ve been using the Galaxy S for a few weeks so I think the words AMOLED and Super are now permanently conjoined in my brain.

      Thanks for pointing that out!

i dont understand, thought the nexus one was not sold anymore….. it was also made with a amoled screen. so htc is going to make the nexus one again but now with the super lcd screen?

  • gothdroid

no they are only selling the n1 internationally. And yes super lcd doesn’t equal the beauty of a super amoled display I have on my vibrant

i thought the Nexus One was discontinued………

I’m guessing it’s only discontinued by Google in this country. HTC is actually the manufacturer of the phone, and they probably retained the right to manufacture and sell it in markets outside of the US.

Every brand of cell phones is in race with other brands they are trying to introduce many unique technologies to the consumers. The technology that HTC is introducing to the market is very unique and amazing and this will be the cause of increase in their reputation

  • OS Fragmentation sucks

First OS fragmentation and now hardware fragmentation.

    • Brad

You know, I’m getting really sick and tired of all the people whining about fragmentation. The whole point of Android is to be fragmented, because not everyone likes the same thing. With the iPhone, all you get is what Apple gives you, one consistent experience across the board. Now, while that may make it nice for developers (to a point), from a consumer standpoint, there is only one choice, and that’s Apple’s choice.

Android, on the other hand, comes in many different shapes and sizes, and we the consumers finally have the option to choose the phone with the hardware configuration and user interface that we prefer, and we can significantly customize the user interface as well. Now, I do believe that measures need to be put in place that make sure OEM customizations don’t compromise application compatibility (i.e. an Android 2.1-compatible app should be able to run on any Android 2.1 phone), but aside from that, let the manufacturers build the device they really want to build. Consumers will then ultimately decide with their pocket books which designs are hot, and which are not, and that’s exactly the way it should be.

If this is the same tech that Sony uses on their Alpha digicams, then these look almost as good as AMOLED.

I have a Droid Incredible and when I saw the Sony NEX-5 at Best Buy, I thought for sure it was AMOLED only to discover it was SLCD.

  • JFA

If this is pretty similar to the display on the iPhone 4, then its not a bad choice at all. It’d be nice if we can get Super AMOLED displays, but the shortage of AMOLED is the reason for LCD.

  • Drago

so, anyone has power consumption numbers of Super LCD vs Super AMOLED?

  • iFlossâ„¢

Global Nexus One??? ok so am I the only person to catch that??? BGR start researching or is it just the current Nexus One?

  • Michelle Ashley

Please would someone confirm how you pronounce “AMOLED”? For example, is it pronounced AMO-LED? Thanks in advance!

  • musaji

maybe Samsung is doing this deliberately to screw HTC and make their galaxy line of phones easily available than HTCs.

  • fully charged

is this new slcd going to be on the htc vanguard/vision for tmobile?

  • jawman

    will EVO get this?

  • omar

so whats better? SLCD or Super AMOLED? and since its a shortage on the screens, will they sell the desire with the AMOLED screens and the rest with SLCD?
