Something that should have been implemented since day one. At least they actually recognized now that when people want to close their account, they mean delete their presence and not place it in some sort of limbo state until you log back in one day

  • 3 Phones Jugglin

Aww Rats…i already deleted that garbage…I think. Man, im anti-social.

    • Shelbz

      I’m just anti-social(network)

I hate when someone gets pissed at me for not answering their message from 3 weeks ago on Facebook when they could easily text or email me.

Seriously why the fuck should I go to a website to get a message asking if I wanted to get together for sushi?

The iPhone facebook app will most likely prove to be the downfall of apple. It does not include an option to delete your facebook account. I had three friends return or exchange their iPhones for this issue. I can’t foresee how this can end well for AAPL or Apple Inc.

    • K

      lol wat

      • Android

My thoughts exactly. Did you or your friends return for the same reason? Apple needs to improve the facebook app badly. Counting you, that’s four people I know of who couldn’t take the lack of facebook deletion in the native iPhone app. Shareholders are standing by with fat fingers….

      • sirpaul

make that 4 man that’s the exact reason I returned my iPhone as well! I bought it specifically to delete my facebook account tirelessly!

  • X Glansburg

The scary part here is that it has taken 7 years for Facebook to finally have this option

    • http://www.helixzone.net helix2301

I think this is part of them tightening up there security.

  • http://www.jiffytune.com EntrepreNerd

This feature, while needed, is not what needs to be done. They need a way to export YOUR data. Very few people will make use of such a feature when it requires you to delete years of photos and movies that you may or may not have saved else where. For example. What of all those photos people send from there mobile devices?

This is a PR stunt and little else.

    • sirpaul

I acutaly agree with you. Only issue is that what if someone hacks your account? If they found a way to safely implement this it would be great (but counter-productive as it would be way easier for people to switch social networks).

Why would anyone want to leave Facebook? Who will tend to their 4 different farms and 5 different fish tanks?!

    • Arshadmohamed

      ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Jay

Screw Facebook! *logs into Facebook to check messages*

  • RICK JAMES

    Can BGR have this option?

  • J

It’s not true about the images of friends showing up when you ask for de-activation. I was able to click a link from the Help section and it took me straight to the 14 day notice. I’ve had my family search for me and I am not showing up any where. Good riddance to this garbage.

  • Steve Mobs

Good thing iPhone owners can’t cancel their contracts this easily

  • Fishman

Can Facebook get ONE thing right?! When you report spam it should work that and when is someone going to bring up the total lack of customer service FB has?

  • Yo

How about a delete BGR option?

  • Droid User

You don’t have to go through a 14 day wait period. I’ve seen this mentioned on other sites and it is completely false. On Facebook:

Account -> Help Center -> Delete Account -> I Want To Permanently Delete My Account -> Scroll Down -> Click Here at the end of the txt -> Click Submit -> Fill out the info and delete your account.

    For a direct link -> https://ssl.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=delete_account&__a=7

This has been around for quite some time. At least as far back as May.

    • Droid User

      God damn I am dumb.

  • http://ipadscreenprotectorblog.com Pat

My boss would love this. She wanted to delete her account already. Hopefully, it will be implemented soon. :)

    @ Kelly Hodgkins,

This article is very well written! I’m still smirking at your imagery. Facebook “purgatory”; this is classic.
