Carrier billing coming soon to the Android market

Google updated its Android Developers blog with some legal changes to the Android Market Developer Distribution Agreement (DDA) that suggest carrier billing is on the horizon. According to the posting, Google is introducing new payment options for the Android Market and has added “authorized carriers” as an indemnified party. Developers have been alerted of these changes and have 30 days to accept these new terms. Once this 30 day window is over, Google will be one step getting closer to launching this payment alternative. Any Android users looking forward to carrier billing or do you still prefer the comfort of plastic?

yeah, i’ve been using T-Mobile billing through Android Market for awhile. it’s good when i want to pay for things a few weeks down the road lol

Yeah, maybe a correction is needed because tmobile has had the carrier billing option for months now. However, that only works for apps in usd. Maybe the announcement was full carrier billing support, even for apps in foreign dollars, and the writer misinterpreted it?

of course they want the carrier to handle the billing.
companies like Verizon will slap a handling fee and more taxes on your bill, then when you call to dispute the charges, they will tell you contact google, google will say contact carrier until the customer gives up and just pays it.

I will stick with my iTunes store where I can use my card or an iTunes card and not have my carrier mess with my app purchases.

Ok and the first time that happens ill quit using carrier billing. Im not gonna jump to any conclusions until i have all the facts. The whole thing about this is that it follows the theme of Android with choice.

carrier billing is only an option. Maybe you are not used to having choices in your life. Maybe you want a single party rule for ever like in China. Why the unneccesary expense of elections. It will save costs as well.

You did rather have Apple make all the money out of your digital life than other companies right ? somehow Apple is angelic compared to Verizon or AT&T which is spending billions of dollars on upgrading the network, whereas Apple spends 300 million dollars on ads and maybe 200-300 million dollars on R&D for a new phone. It’s fine by me. I don’t have credit cards nor any kind of credit access so it would mean a nice option for me to get paid apps but I don’t live in the USA so I’ll probably have to wait for a year, more or my whole life.

Google Check-out works fine for me. If you pay with “plastic” and there are discrepancies you can be refunded.The less I pay VZW, the better and I suppose the carriers could charge a handling fee. Just sayin’
