Apple moving through iPad, iPhone 4 waiting lists? Could sell 1,000,000 devices

Breaking

One of our Apple sources has been communicating some internal Apple information to us, and from what we’ve been told, this weekend could be big. Currently, if you go to an Apple retail store and can’t find an iPad or iPhone 4, Apple will offer the ability to reserve one for you. These are “Priority Lists” and contain your name and information in addition to the specific device and configuration you want. These lists allow Apple to determine how to manage their channel inventory or possibly ramp up on production. Here’s the big news we’ve been told… Apple is apparently incredibly interested in clearing out these waiting lists, and if our tipster is correct, they’re aiming to do it by this weekend. We have been told that stores have lists that could be anywhere from 500 to 1500 or more customers waiting for iPhones, and anywhere from 250 to 750 customers waiting for iPads. Apparently all Apple stores have asked employees for an “all hands on deck” approach this weekend, somewhat similar to that of Apple product launch days. We have even been informed that Apple stores might open early on Sunday to accommodate extra traffic. Lastly, our source let us know that clearing out these lists could result in the sale of up to an additional 500,000 to 1,000,000 iOS devices in just a few short days.

Thanks, Lindsey S.!

Apple might not handle hardware issues in the proper way, at least they know how to handle sales and marketing. Or so it might seem. Good work Stevo!

What about the waiting list at Radio Shack? I’ve been waiting since pre-order on June 15.

    • Steve

Ya think Apple is going to give phones to Radio Shack before they fill their own waiting lists first?

    • apeach

After complaining to the local Radio Shack that I had been waiting in the wait list for 3 weeks, the clerk took me aside and quietly told me that he didn’t feel that the stores would ever receive the phones, and that orders would only be filled through their website. I don’t know if he knew what he was talking about, But I immediately put my name in at the Apple store. The reason I first went to RS was that they offered a great trade in for my old phone. Over the wait period they have drastically reduced the trade in value and now it is way below market value. Run don’t walk away from Radio Shack

thats what you get for going to radio shack…
i would get a refund and order it via at&t or apple… would get it faster

    This article doesn’t make sense.

It seems to imply some sort of stockpile of iphones and ipads will be made available this weekend to clear out the waiting lists.

Why on earth would Apple stockpile iphones/ipads instead of shipping them to waiting customers?

Could they be planning to not release the phone in one of the July 30th countries and recalled the stock destined for that country?

    • Luke

Alternately, they might have been building stock of white iphones and will start selling them on Sunday. July 25th. 31 days after June 24th.

      • NIck Brahm

What a coincidence that they are able to fulfill all these orders immediately after they release their earning statements. They didnt wanna blow their profit load in one quarter.

  • Howie Erlang

That’s a lot of new people suddenly without phone reception.

  • jkingly

    Fuck Apple, Microsoft, AT

1,000,000 iSheep? that’s more than enough to count at night when i can’t sleep.

So every one that had ever purchased anything from Apple is an iSheep? I don’t think so. Apple make good products that people like plain and simple. Grow up

      • Big Jimmy

That make crappy (e.g. phone without phone reception), overpriced junk. But they are good at marketing. There is a sucker born every minute. Step right up.

  • Joe

I got my iphone and had no trouble at all. Maybe my timing was just right on, however I can’t believe I waited so long to get one. Its the best tech device ever.

  • ivan

hopefully this is true and i get my phone this weekend i been put on a priority list for about 5 days already this is really frustrating

    • sirpaul

OMG not FIVE DAYS!!! :o Bastards, making you wait so long!

  • http://www.freeapplezone.com Will

I would have thought they would have launched with plenty of handset available, imagine how many people really wanted an iphone but due to their unavailability decided to buy something else.

  • Antie

There are plenty of brand new, factory sealed iPhone 4 listed in eBay with price of $749. With Bing anf other cashback, you can buy one with price lower than what you pay to Apple plus sales tax.

@ivan, 5 days isn’t too bad I’ve been on the list since July 4th

Suspicious. One of Apple’s successes has been its ability to pump up the public about upcoming products without leaking information. Of course this year has been chaos from the start.

To put it simply, I’ve really lost trust in Apple. From their defensive stance when attenna reception was first discovered, to Steve Jobs’ cocky email…it’s left a rotten apple taste in my mouth.

I don’t understand why a mass shipment would be sent out, unless they are trying to end the iPhone 4 nightmare and get rid of what they can while they can, or if it’s like someone else mentioned…profits. Odd.

Also, AT&T, an already stressed and behind the times network bulging with over usage from iPhone users doesn’t seem to be ready to handle a mass influx of users all attempting to activate and use their phones in a 48 or so hour period. I just see a disaster coming if this is the case. Good God Apple, wake up…open the phone to other networks as in Europe and next time you test a phone, test them in the lab WITHOUT a fake case hiding the look of the phone. Better yet, Steve Jobs…take your iPhone and drive cross-country and see how many dropped calls you get. I’m sure there is a giant AT&T tower right outside your headquarters in Cupertino…and it’s blinding you!

That was long-winded, but I’ve spoken my peace. Thanks.

    • rjohn

Sorry for the blatant misspelling above, I meant antenna.

    • scott

Apple is only on other carriers elsewhere because of laws requiring it. If you want how it is in Europe, there are also no subsidies for the phones. They all sell at full price.

I reserved a black 16G last week at two stores. I got an email this morning that they are ready for pick up. I had initially been told 2-3 weeks…

  • sirpaul

I love these estimates…”500000 to 1000000″…basically, 750000 plus or minus 250k…or so. Even I can make estimates like that…without a business degree :)
Still…better rumor and crappy estimates than no rumor and estimate at all.

Called the apple store in sagemore NJ yesterday. They confirmed this. The guy said they’re not taking any more reservations. They’re getting shipments in each day to try and wipe out the list. The goal, from what I was told, is that a customer could walk in on Monday and purchase one without waiting or hassle. Good thing I put my name on the list earlier that morning @ the Cherry Hill store :D I can’t wait! I’ve been on back order with ATT since 6/16 and my 3G with 4.01 keeps running like crap.

  • Sameer

still waiting for that golden email :(

  • boracho

I just came back from my Apple Store here in Texas. Employee told me they notified everyone on the store’s priority list this weekend. I asked to be put on the priority list, but he said it has been discontinued. They are not taking any more names.

Any phones not picked up by people that reserved them will be fair game tomorrow morning. First come, first serve.

  • Jp

I put my name on the list Wednesday and got mine yesterday (Sunday). Thanks for the tip BGR. I had planned on going out of town this weekend but decided to stick around in case this story was true. Good decision.
