Nexus One no longer available for purchase from Google

Nexus One Google Webstore

The day hath cometh. Last week, Google cautioned users that after it had sold through its remaining stock of HTC Nexus Ones the handset would no longer be available — unlocked — directly from Google. Today, that warning has become reality. A quick glance at http://www.google.com/phone tells the sad story. Wel… it was fun while it lasted.Read

Without the N1 we would be stuck with the HTC Aria as the top of the line device, still lagging behind the competition.

Google/HTC gave the Android hardware a kick in the ass it needed and now we have no fewer than 5 1Ghz phones that meet or exceed the N1 specs.

Look at the Galaxy S series just as a case in point. It surpasses the N1 in every aspect: Better display, dedicated DSP, even though the CPU is the same speed the Hummingbird hums past the N1, 16GB on board storage, 720p video recording, and available on every US carrier (or will be soon enough.)

I never got an N1 because I was happy with my Magic but ordered a Captivate this week.

The next Dev phone I am sure will again be the next evolution of the Android reference specs, give us 1.5/2Ghz CPU, 16GB on board storage, forward facing camera, 8-10MP camera, higher quality 720/1080p video recording.

Personally I am more excited now about the future of Android from a hardware standpoint than I have ever been before.

All companies should sell their phones directly. I’ve loved my N1 since day 1. Not bogged down by any carrier crap…I prefer this moment

  • Android is ok

Big papi you can buy any phone without commitment. And any GSM phone can be unlocked eventually. So what’s the issue?

  • Android is ok

Androidfella you have no idea what the N1 was created for. They didn’t have to create the Nexus one to get manufacturers to “up their game”. You say that as if Google made the phone themselves. HTC made it so why not have them make a “super phone” anyway? Point blank Google tried to try a different method to sell their phones much like Nokia does overseas and it just doesn’t work in the States. You can believe what you want but they wanted this device to sell millions and not just to make a point. Get over the fail.

Too bad.. N1 is still a great phone/device. Dead..well not really..

People need to know that cause you cant buy it thru Google Website dose not mean its dead. Just means you can’t buy thru them and need to go to another source to buying the N1. Thats like saying I want to buy a Ipad thru Frys..well they dont sell it on their website so I guess it must be dead then. People need to learn to think before they type and use the right words when they write up a blog/review etc etc.

Let me look at My N1 (ATT which I have had no probs what-so-ever).. yup turns on.. looks it makes calls.. still have full internet/wi-fi…google maps etc etc works excellent..wow it still even does updates.. now that dose not sound like a ‘dead’ phone to me.

But it is nice to know that for us Sexy Nexy owners we have a TRUE android phone that is not tainted with ATT/Tmo/Sprint/Verizon crap ware they like to put on phones (or differ UI) etc etc.

I am sure that our phones will last for quite a while (starting to see problems creep up for the Droid X/Evo etc). There is no perfect phone period.

Finally was in ATT store (wife was getting rid of her nav thru att cause when she used it on her Samsung Mystic it would freeze her phone up) and I notice they had the Aria..pulled my N1 out and..well damn the aria is a small phone (just my N1 screen was as big as the Aria phone itself) but was not impressed with it after tinkering with it a bit (had so much att crap ware was not funny).

“sexy nexy”…is that kinda like “foxy Noxy”? just like she killed her roomates, Google killed this phone. its gone, get over it. there will be something better for you android lovers anyway.

I’m surprised that BGR didn’t pay Jason Buford for this story…

Could BG Report please follow-up with Google on the accessories topic? There is no way of ordering those now

I’m absolutely crazy about my N1. It’s true that the Galaxy has a better screen, but I’m not interested in proprietary UI crap. Also, there is no other phone on the market (except the iPhone) that feels as solid and expensive in its construction as the Nexus One.

Hey Andrew, sp mistake: “well” instead of “wel” ;) no biggie just letting you know.

  • MISoFine

Great. There goes the only TRUE Android phone on AT&T. I was THIS CLOSE to saving up my $550!!!

    *weeping*

Guess it’s time to move to Big Red.*looking @ Aria in disgust*
