Verizon and Motorola have come out with an official statement to address screen issues early adopters of the Motorola DROID X are experience; specifically, banding or flickering. The statement is short and sweet, and goes something like this…

Verizon Wireless and Motorola are aware of a very small number of DROID X units that have experienced a flickering or banding display. Motorola has resolved the issue and is continuing to ship the phones. Any consumer who experiences a flickering or banding display should contact a Motorola customer support center or Verizon Wireless.

…and there you have it. Any DROID X owners out there experiencing this issue?

No problems with my Droid X either.

You mean i don’t get a free bumper? Yes all phones have their problems but my x has been awesome. Speaking if screens, if you have an x please di a side by side comparison with anyone and the iphone and they will all say” wow” about our screen. And then side load an app infront of them.

    • MAtt

Really, because my best friend has a Droid X but keeps saying how much he loves the screen on my iPhone 4. I think iPhone 4 owners have just been polite to you so far. The X screen is bigger and not nearly as nice as an iPhone 4.

Oh, and side load all the app you want. The Android OS is still essentially spyware.

Even though google’s business is to collect information, i can almost guarantee apple knows more about any one iPhone user than google does about an android user.

      • tom

        how do you guarantee this?

      • Zach

how can you prove him wrong???

  • Obj_me

Wow any positive comment about Apple or any negative about Android is a guaranteed “-” around here…geesh why do people constantly troll this board and start flame wars about a product that they don’t even own or care to own. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, that’s fine. I prefer iOS over Android and somehow in the eyes on 90% of the people around here would accuse me of being a fanboy. I think Android has some great features and if I could I would like to have an Android phone as well as my i4. I used a DroidX the other day and really liked it, the only thing it’s lacking IMHO is a front facing camera…too bad the evo seems so frickin bulky with that camera bulge on the back. Just shows how the media loves to blow things out of proportion. As far as the comments attacking Apple for saying that all phones have antenna issues, yes it could have been worded better however how much do you want to bet attenuation problems are more common than faulty display? Can anyone say motogate! I thought this was supposed to be a tech forum but somehow every article, even ones with absolutely nothing to do with Apple or the iPhone somehow turn into a troll-fest! Why not discuss the issue at hand and contribute something of actual value as oppossed to letting everyone know how much you hate something and that what you have is so much better and then act like your opinion is absolute fact? Is it just me or does it seem like this site has degenerated into a community of trolls with the maturity level of a 15 year old?!?!?

We don’t need sensible adult talk here. We are all immature android fanboys and will stay like that until we move on to the next one and then we will start hating on android in our immature ways.

So if you are intesterested in truely educational and informative conversations you’ve come to the wrong place. We are not reasonable people and love it that way.

  • Seabass

Apple and Steve should read and learn how honest business is done.

    • Ernie

Really. So you are telling me that motorola just found out about this and said ok guys let’s call the press and tell them everything! We don’t need pr people or don’t have a need to massage the truth. Your naiveness is evident.

Just bought my X on Monday and by tuesday at 5pm the bottom couple of inches of the screen started flickering and in a matter of minutes was unreadable and unusable.

Hoping to get it replaced SOON

    • Leon

I purchased my Droid X on July 15th and had no problems. Then yesterday I read about the screen issues, and wouldn’t you know yesterday afternoon the bottom inch of my screen started flickering. Talk about luck.

In any case I went to the Verizon store and they ordered me a new phone with no fuss. The guy at the Verizon store said this was the first case they have seen of this.

I understand these things happen, and in no way does it change my opinion of the phone at all. It’s still an awesome phone.

Just have to remember that when it comes to technology there is a bathtub curve for failure.

Worse is the “self-destruct tab” – many people follow the instructions on the tab in the battery compartment and pull the insulated backing out of the phone. It looks like the kind of pull-out-when-new tab you find in remote controls and other things that come with installed batteries.

Verizon and Motorola say customers have voided their warranties by following the instructions on the tab.

  • Marcosoft

At least Motorola didn’t have a press conference saying “look, all the other phones do it too! Here’s a new case for your troubles!” Nice quick replay and fix Moto!

  • geek

The phone is awesome but the most surprising thing is that I don’t feel the size and weight that I did with the Droid in my pocket. It’s a huge difference, get it?

  • mrdudeguy

    my X works gloriously.

i have however had it restart once, screen is great, but that was weird. only happened once though. Anybody else have this issue? Or… Or… or am i an outlier…

My Droid X is working perfectly and the screen is large, beautiful, sharp, and no flickering whatsoever. The processor is snot quick.

My DX ran 1268 on Quadrant, within a whisker of the Nexus One on Android 2.2. When the Android 2.2 update comes to the DX, this thing will really scream.

No regrets, no problems, great phone.

  • eyemumforfun

I had the X for 5 days, the screen sucked and the battery drained faster then any phone I have ever owned!!

I love my iPhone 4, I always use a case so I have NEVER dropped a call!

    Sorry X – YOU SUCK!

  • Andy

Good to see them getting in front of this problem so quickly. Obviously, they’ve learned through Apple’s mistakes. My best friend is should be receiving his X today or tomorrow. Hoping to get a good side by side comparison of the two devices soon.

  • MonkeyCheese

From what I hear the X owners were holding the phone wrong thus causing the screen problem. I know what I’m talking about cause Steve explained it to me the other night.

  • http://www.absolutefiction.com Rono

    Are you getting this Stevo?
    Watch and learn.

  • NYISLES

Steve Jobs was right…..ALL cell phones have issues
