Had a chance to play with a test model a couple of weeks ago, as I have a relative that is in Enterprise sales for Dell. As big. is it sounds, it fits in shirt pocket with about a inch sticking out. Not heavy for its size, and thin. Will be upgradable to 2.2. Just dont know if it will be carrier subsidized, my relative shouldnt give me that detail, but know that it will be unlocked for 500. Was sure I was going to get an Iphone4 after seeing that display, but knowing that the Dell is Fast too and can fit more on the screen, and it looks very sharp as well. My wife has new Droid X, which is great too, but cant beat that screen size. Makes my Iphone3g kinda look like a playtoy thats as fast as a turtle.

Att ofcourse. Verizon is sweet but when it comes to phones att gets all the new once. I’m not saying that VZ have bad phones but att got the razr when it first came out , iphone windows phones and palm ofcourse. If they offer it for vz or sprint i will get in a heart beat.lol.

Just think if a device like this came in CDMA w/ Sprint.

There would be a $30 “premium data fee” for it’s extra massive screen!

Wouldn’t this be somewhat of a clue that it will come with 2.2?

“512 MB ROM + 512 MB SDRAM + 2 GB non-user accessible MicroSD for system & applications files only”

MicroSD for system & application files…Froyo can install applications to the SD card.

5″ = too small. Bring on the 6 inchers.

      thats what she said?

@Eric: the two gigs sd rom are the on board hard drive if I remember correctly… And tbh about this device, I think that it is awesome and can’t wait to get my hands on one! And here’s to praying for a really fast upgrade to 2.2… Buy if not, it’s already been rooted ;)

    • Eric

I dunno…the specs do say ” 2 GB non-user accessible MicroSD” Why would they refer to it as MicroSD if it’s not an SD card?

Just got my Galaxy S / Vibrant as none of the carrier’s sales people knew if this was coming out..I will be within my return policy duration once this comes out and I have already signed up for pre-order notification. This phone looks really nice.

Be careful Galaxy S is no slouch. Faster processor (Hummingbird versus Snapdragon) & Graphics, killer 4″ Super AMOLED screen, 720P video capable, excellent batt. life, superior rear facing camera (and newest killer camera software), 3D capable, surround sound, free Google GPS Sat. turn by turn navigation, running Android 2.2. A few other features that Streak DOES NOT have. However it does have a bigger screen.

    Might try reading Dell’s page.

    “Think fast. Play faster.

The Dell Streak ensures that you can multitask and play without delay (including music and games), with the powerful yet efficient 1GHz Qualcomm SnapdragonTM processor speeding things along using Google’s Android-based OS with multi-touch Dell user experience. 3G mobile broadband, WiFi and Bluetooth® mean you’ve always got an easy way to connect, while swappable microSD memory cards mean virtually limitless storage for movies, music and pictures — up to 42 movies, 32,000 photos or 16,000 songs3 on each of your individual 32GB memory cards.”

    Interesting, “swappable microSD memory cards.”

all I care about is that it continue the Dell legacy-as much cheap black plastic as possible. And, hopefully, page after page of crapware.

This looks way too big it’s like caring a TV in your pocket. I have the Samsung Captivate and it’s border line too big for me.

Available in the UK now. Personally I was tempted but decided it was too big to be convenient as a phone, but not big enough to replace a netbook/tablet.
(And being Android 1.5 with no firm date for an upgrade didn’t help.)

The cell phone industry has become like a circus: A phone with a larger screen than all others. A phone that has a Garmin Navigation GPS that the others don’t have. A phone with more pixels per square inch than all others. A phone that does/has (fill in the blanks)…etc.

Then you go out and buy one of them, based on what the manufacturer says it can do. Then after using it for several minutes, you discover that it’s full of flaws and bugs, and that’s not what you really wanted, cuz it’s too “plasticky,” and on top of that, you just read that a newer model with a built-in telescope has just been released, and now you start thinking about all the possibilities, like watching the hot chick accross the street, when she’s undressing before realizing she left her window open.

Then, after going through hours, or days, of intense depression, disappointment and lack of self-esteem, you finally realize that your choices are to either wait for the next OS update fix, or sell it in eBay or Craigslist. Then the never ending cycle of searching for the ideal cell phone starts all over again.

Someone ought to write a script for a movie and call it “The Adventures of a Cell Phone Nerd.” It will have sex, violence, nudity, profanity, drugs, intrigue, mystery, and maybe some hope for the future. All the ingredients that will make it a sure blockbuster.
