Motorola DROID 2 to be released with Android 2.2?

This weekend, the folks over at Droid-Life acquired an image that seems to answer a question a lot of potential DROID 2 owners have. Will the DROID 2 ship with Android 2.2 — Froyo — or will they have to wait for Verizon to release an update? Well, luckily it looks like the answer to the first half of that question is: yes, the DROID 2 will ship with Android 2.2. The image obtained by DL shows a D2 prototype running Froyo, with Verizon branding, complete with Motorola’s not-really-BLUR UI (joy). Android 2.2, an improved keyboard, and a 1 GHz processor?! We can’t wait!

    I have 2.2 on my Droid 1. Easy to root and install a custom rom.

    Let us not forget what is really important here: HTC INCREDIBLE GETTING 2.2 BY END OF AUGUST!

    that is all.

    @Mitch,

    It’s actually common practice. How many other carriers charge extra for smartphones and, they don’t have 3G everywhere.

    @Capt.Obvious,

    Don’t you guys get it? This is the only reason carriers and makers backed Android. Googles green pastures promise! We’ll make a smartphone OS that you can charge extra for data, add your own disabling and personalized skin based on your needs and desires, and best of all it’ll be fragmented so they’ll have to buy new phones every 3 to 6 months to have the latest and greatest. Guaranteeing sales records to go through the rough. People bash Apple but, how many iOS updates and bug fixes have they given on a single device? Ok now how about Google with the Android OS? Don’t make me point out Sprint and T-Mobile handsets! Or the Droid Eris! Wake up already!
