Right on schedule, the Samsung Captivate has made its official debut on AT&T. Also known globally as the Galaxy S, the Captivate features a 1GHz processor, 4 inch 480×800 Super AMOLED display, a 5 megapixel camera, 720p HD video recording, 16GB on-board storage, microSD expansion, Bluetooth 3.0, GSM/GPRS 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, and 3G UMTS/HSDPA 850/900/1900/21000 MHz. Just bought mine from an ATT corporate store at our local mall. It was tagged $499.99 but rang up $349.99. All is good.

Can’t wait for my Captivate, no flash or front camera, :.
But the rest is AMAZING. The 4 inch screen is the perfect, not to big, nor to small.

All day today Walmart.com had the captivate FREE with 2 year contract extension and FREE activation and as soon as I got home they’ve gone and upped it to $99 (still cheaper than everyone else) but still WTF?!?!?!?

Ok so after 2 days with the phone i have to say that the phone is amazing! The size of the phone is absolutely perfect and the screen is flawless!

With that said i have a noticed 2 things that have caught my attention thus far. First one is when using the Samsung keyboard i have not found any way to spell check what i type. Anybody come across this problem and found a fix? Ive defaulted to the default Android keyboard in the meantime. The other one which is my critical for me is that the little battery icon in the notification bar for me does not at all show even close to the actual battery charge. The Battery percentage for me right now in the Android system status shows as 22% yet the icon is showing atleast around 70%. This can for obvious reasons can cause some problems haha. Anybody else out there have some input on this battery problem i am experiencing?

    • Paul

I’m having similar battery report % issues.
Its not very accurate at all. Battery was showing 100%, but another battery app was saying 82%

Is there a way to have the stock battery indicator show the % as well?

      • UncleCarl

Unfortunately Paul i dont know of any way aside from downloading a widget that will display the battery life as a numeric % instead of the graphical icon on the notification bar.

Would it be possible for the powers that be at BGR to perhaps contact the guys at Samsung with this ‘bug’ report. Im sure you guys have more influence than just a random caller LOL.

Returned my Samsung today and went back to my i4..though i love Android and appreciate att finally getting a somewhat highend device not too badly crippled i just prefer the crisp text the retina display offers. Also the Samsung RF indicator on mine was horrid, it bounced around from zero bars to 3 at most..i will wait for the next android phone att comes out with with a 4inch screen

@2, surprised you returned to the iP4 so quickly. I am preparing to ship my iP4 back to Apple because I like the Cap so much. As far as text, I slightly agree. However, to all the folks who are staying away due to no camera flash, don’t. Took shots at a bar last night that are great. The camera has tons of settings and is really good

I picked my Captivate up on the 19th, and I still can’t get past the fact that there is no flash on the camera. I also have a Samsung Mythic as a second line, with a flash. Why did they leave this out?

I got mine on yesterday on the 21st and shipped it back on the 22nd. I went back to my iphone 3gs. I liked the Captivate’s screen and android has some cool effects like the live backgrounds. It’s also nice that you can play lots of different video formats. My reasons for returning it though is I was not impressed by Android 2.1 especially with all the hype people have been giving android phones. Most of the apps are subpar compared to equivalent iphone apps. The mail app could not access my free yahoo email. There was no easy way to get my calendar transferred from my iphone to the captivate. The signal strength was not consistent. The widgets sucked. I could not voicedial with my bluetooth headset. No visual voicemail unless you download an app for it. Max Brightness of the screen was not as bright as my 3gs, important if you don’t have a flashlight. Also I compared 2 exact images downloaded on the browser and maxed out the brightness, guess what picture I preferred? The 3gs. So in the end, I decided to return it and just get an iphone 4. $ for $, the captivate is a great buy, I got it for $149.99 on a contract extension and this was with no tax, free shipping, and no activation fee. The iphone 4 will cost me $199.99 plus a huge amount of tax. In the end though I’ll probably be more happy with the iP4.

Wow maybe you should see an optometrist because anyone who thinks the 3GS has a better screen than the captivate is either blind or really dumb……. Probably the latter. Good luck with you isuck4. 2 of my buddies have already cracked theirs from falls we’ve seen our old iPhones take a hundred times over.

Let’s face it people. Apple is done for. Their products have continually become more problematic and shoddy. They think they what’s best for you which has alienated a very large section of their customer base. They have a serious lack of innovation over the last four years between each model. They release iPhone 4 with known serious antenna issues and then have the nerve to say take it or leave it, we don’t care our product doesn’t work because stupid people are buying it. Oh here’s a shitty case to put on it to make it have the functionality it was supposed to have out of the box.

Steve jobs is a megalomaniac and anyone with stock in apple should cash out know before stevey crashes the ship into the rocks while trying to stroke his massive ego

      • Haha LOL

“Steve jobs is a megalomaniac and anyone with stock in apple should cash out know before stevey crashes the ship into the rocks while trying to stroke his massive ego”

LOL I hope you are trying to trade in the market. Guys like you make it easy to really rake in the cash, directly from your pockets.

        AAPL
        07-23-2010 $259.94
        10-08-2010 $294.07

PS: the thinkorswim app for android is way better than the iphone version
