Verizon Wireless Motorola DROID X's being swiftly replenished?

Exclusive

Thanks to a VZW tipster, we’ve been informed that Verizon Wireless stores are receiving regular shipments of the new Motorola DROID X. If you weren’t able to snag one yesterday, try calling some local stores this morning and see if they have received any more in stock.

I got my iPhone 4 yesterday and it’s HOOOOOOT.

      • zach android

Why dont you go try to find a signal. That should keep you busy for a while.

    • Joshua

BG- I spoke with two stores and customer service and no one seems to be replenishing until 7/23

  • Kigs

wonder whats gonna happen to the DX when the iphone 4 for VZ is announced later?

    • Ellis

Im going to sell my Droid X and buy and Verizon Iphone 4… if they figure out how to fix the antenna!!!

  • Mikhael

    second

    • Thablackguy

lmao man that’s a fail if i’ve ever seen one !

  • Drew

iPhone on VZW… won’t happen, get over it. No iPhone for you!

    • Jakol

I agree, VZW and APPL are both control freaks, APPL will never put VZW logo on the iphone. VZW will want control of media contents.

    • John

Actually it will. Despite speculations it only makes economical sense for Apple to partner with all wireless carriers. Despite the fellatio that AT&T board members give Steve Jobs, it will eventually get old and he will look to expand. That being said, VZW future LTE network is on schedule and will come out long before AT&T will transition. This could be a great opportunity to make an iPhone that can be used globally on one technology. Get educated kid.

  • Jason M

I ordered 3 of them at 6:30am PST yesterday but there is still no shipping/tracking information.

Customer service still shows the order as pending. WTF Verizon.

They did this to me with the Incredible too.

Not sure why they didn’t learn from that disaster and keep a really healthy supply at hand before launch?

    • Nathan

Take a look at this VZW forum. CSR’s are now saying that approximately 5000 orders placed yesterday “got stuck” and were not processed until later yesterday. This occurred after the initial stock was depleated, meaning all of those orders are now in backorder status until 7/23.

      Sweet.

    • Jarrett

      @ Jason M,

If the manufacturer doesn’t have the capacity to give you ample supply how exactly are you as a carrier suppose to keep the product moving?

As a consumer myself I understand your frustration. Here we have the latest and greatest Android device (every two months I know) and all 60,000 that were manufactured for the first run are now sold through so we as consumers have to wait. Be patient, by the time Motorola has 300,000 built and sold the next “latest” and “greatest” Android device will be out.

Things could be worse, just imagine if you weren’t able to Flash different ROM’s on this new beauty of a phone……….. Oh yeah, we might not be able to. If Google wasn’t going to understand the downside to their openness the phone manufacturers surely were.

    • braine

Wow you ordered 3?! Are you out of your mind? The Droid X isn’t that hot…

  • indeed

As much as I am looking forward to owning an iPhone 4, I cannot fucking stand how annoying Apple is with not replenishing their stock. Are they doing this scarcity stuff on purpose? What is their a shortage of?

If the Droid X can be replenished quickly, what exactly is taking so long with Apple?

It’s making me not want to buy the iPhone out of resent. I’ve been waiting for 3 weeks. If I don’t have it by next week, I’m getting a Droid. I’m tired of this shit.

    • Jarrett

      @ indeed,

Motorola might have had an initial run rate of 100,000 (Mayyyyybe) Apple had an initial run rate of roughly 2,000,000 and sold through on that. Much easier to replenish a product when it is only wanted by 5% of the buying market.

I would say for you to just get that Droid. You may be a little to high strung for the iPhone. Besides, the way that Google and the manufacturers are starting to lock down the OS you the last few phone may be the only ones left to Flash ROM’s to. The newer phones are going to limit what Android actually does.

Time for a new slogan I guess.

      • Satya

i would 100,000 perfectly working handsets against 2,000,000 defective phones….

      • Jarrett

        @ Satya,

Careful, the phones actually have to be used first to find out how perfect they are or are not.

      • AtlHarry

Moto’s the only ones using eFuse right now. Good thing about android is that they’re not the only players in the game. Google is NOT locking down the OS and only a manufacturer (singular) is locking it down. In fact, Moto is not locking down the OS, it’s locking down the bootloader (to the same effect).

      • Jarrett

        @ AtlHarry,

Google is slowing their update cycles (locking down). Yes Moto is the only one using eFuse (or equivalent) right now, but this will change. All these manufactures have the same problem as the PC companies. Their customers are not necessarily going to be returning customers. So they have to build the latest and greatest phones continually. This makes the profit margins shrink. All these companies the are part of the Open Handset Alliance are exactly the same as Apple, Microsoft, IBM and anyone else, they are businesses. As a business you goal is to make money, not worry about an ideology such as “openness”. If they can’t make money, they shareholders can’t keep them around. So they will find ways to make money.

      • Joshua

Dude! Please stop making BS comments, acting like you know what in the hell you’re talking about. Passing off your own unfounded speculation as beneficial, insider-intelligence is nauseating.

      • politicalslug

I totally agree. If any Android customer can switch from brand to brand (HTC –> Moto –> Sony –> etc.) then the incentive has to be constant newer and better hardware. Apple, economically, has the best strategy. Once you’re locked in, YOU’RE LOCKED IN. No brand switching. No options.

  • lcw

it’s being quickly replenished because there was never a shortage… just an artificial “limit” on supply imposed by Moto and/or VZW to make it appear as if the Droid X is a hot seller… which it’s not…

    • Rob

Uh, its not an artificial limit either. Its smart by keeping the product in centralized locations. If X store runs out, and Y store has a few left, then X store gets shipped more. That way the stores that sell more have access to more. BTW, it IS a hot seller.

      • Jarrett

        @ Rob,

Define Hot Seller. Hot seller like 1.7 million (iPhone 4) in three days? Or hot seller like 65, 000 in three days (HTC EVO)?

        Just sayin’

      • ziggy

1.7 million phones that need to be held in a certain way
        to make a phone call..magical!

        Just sayin’

      • Jarrett

I find two things that are funny:

        1. People that have iPhones and say they either have the issue or they don’t.

        2. People that don’t have the iPhone 4 (I don’t either) and suggest that every phone in every city in every country has this exact same problem to the exact same degree.

You like your phone and the platform, great, just quit pretending it is a bigger deal than what it is. If Android was seriously that big of a deal wouldn’t there be lines for the product? Especially since it is sold in such supply constraints?

        Just sayin’

      • Joshua

Jarrett…please stop posting! No one likes what you have to say. No one can stand someone who lies and pretends they know what they are talking about when they don’t!

      • Rob D.

Except for the fact that every phone does have the problem. Only not everyone experiences this from day to day use. Because you must cover the black strip in order to replicate the effect.

Everyone I know that has an Iphone 4 can replicate this problem (all 8 of em) only 2 are actually effected by it from day to day.

Every tech site has said they can replicate the problem. So it can’t be just a select few that have the issue. Those who say they can’t replicate it are probably lying.

If this was an Android phone with this problem. It would be the laughing stock of the entire tech world and would be hung out to be the worst phone ever built.

But not the iPhone. Why? Because there is no other option for the iSheep.

      • Rob

        @Jarrett

Ok, let’s compare Apples to Apples (pun intended), look at the total Android Handset sales vs the iPhone. Apple has ONE PHONE. Sure the sales look great, but when you have one model and come out with a new model every 4-5 years, your sales will look good, but Moto, HTC, etc are coming out with newer and better phones all the time.

      • braine

I don’t get your post? Apple comes out with a new iPhone every year (since the iPhone 3G).

      • John

Newer does not equal better. Constant hardware revision and releases eat away at profits. Do you really think it is cheap to design, test, and find manufacturers to make new phones?
The reason companies have to keep releasing “new” phones is because they screwed up design or implementation on the previous models.

      • zach

1.7 million is a very hot seller, 65,000 in three days is more like the mytouch. Evo did more in the area of 150,000 in the first day, dont know about three days but thats still pretty big. Bragging about a phone being hot in america is like bragging about a bunch of toddler girls thinking youre hot, they are both stupid and dont know how to use tech.

  • Protegès

They had a large supply. They didn’t account for all of the iPhone junkies switching over.

    • Jarrett

      @ Proteges,

Say the sold through 100,000 already, (they didn’t, but let’s say) how many of those were “iPhone junkies” you think?

      • Patrick

        Jarrett,

You’re really going out of your way to certify that the Droid X is a total flop and apparently didn’t sell well yesterday.

The Droid X sold really well yesterday for VZW, the EVO is selling really well for Sprint, the HD2 sold well for TMO. Get over AT&T and the iPhone. The iPhone is an excellent device, and I enjoyed using it, however there are more phones in the world than the iPhone.

Embrace competition, it will only be better for all of us.

      • Jarrett

I never said the phone didn’t sell well. I said the phone sold the exact number that was manufactured. You can not sell more phone than what was manufactured, just isn’t possible. I am sure Motorola is happy with the number of phones they sold. You probably can’t flash different ROM’s to the phone but hey, it is an open (closing fast) platform.

My points are to keep things in prospective. Every two months a “latest” and “greatest” Android device comes out. This might be good for consumers but this isn’t good for manufactures. This is why Google is slowing the releases of Android and it is why Motorola (and HTC soon) have protections in place to keep you locked to their way of doing business.
I always say that every other company wishes they were Apple and just about every time I say that a company or two proves me to be correct.
I agree on the competition part. Hell, the NFL had to compete with the USFL back in the day. I think we all remember how popular the USFL was.

      • braine

Just to let you know, I absolutely love the iPhone, even could say I’m an Apple ‘fanboi’, but I disagree to what Jarrett keeps waffling on about.

Even though my phone of choice is the iPhone, there has to be competition. Competition drives the market. If there were no other phones, eg. EVO, Droid X, etc. then where would the motivation for innovation come from?

A lot of people on BGR seriously need to take a chill pill, relax, and just appreciate the phone of their choice, whether it be an Android device, an iPhone, BlackBerry or whatever!

  • Sir Hardin Thicke

They should take all of those fucking replenished phones and have them re-routed to the 5000 of us who ordered very early online but got fucked to the back of the line because their system got fucked up.

    • Creamy Tuna Casserole

Maybe you shouldn’t have done such a terrible job at ordering your phone.

      • Sir Hardin Thicke

I did a fine job of ordering my phone, asshole. Verizon is the one that caused the problem with their shitty ordering system. But I’m content on waiting a week now that Verizon got back to me and said that they would credit my account for 2 months of service (before taxes). So it cost me $235 for the phone and accessories that I ordered, but I’ll be credited over $300 because of their fucking incompetence. Yeah, I’m cool with that.

      • John

meanwhile you will have to resort to posting obscenities online since you can’t talk on a phone!

    • MSF

Kind of like waiting in a long line, to pay, at the supermarket and they open a new register and pull the people from the back of the line.

I am one of those 5K. Well, if Apple’s news conference is good it would be tempting to cancel the Droid X order and get an iPhone 4.

  • Creamy Tuna Casserole

A tipster? WTF BG? Anyone could’ve made that up. I have not been advised anything of the like, and such info would be given to me at a moments notice. BGR’s repeated attempted a breaking this frivolous “stories” is a poor attempt at generating interest.

    For shame.

    • Joshua

What in the hell are you ranting about?

    • Rob D.

And who are you exactly? Judging by your name no one important. Move along, move along.

  • Droid555

Apple fanboys relax, there is only one Iphone. There are several Android phones. So they might not in the end equal the Iphone sales, at least they don’t drop calls and have a company denying there is a problem with the phone.

    • Jarrett

      @ Droid 555,

I agree completely. I think what Apple should do is just quit this whole phone business altogether. I mean hell, Google quit after just three months with their hardware initiative.
Shit, all I need is for Apple to start making phones that have screens that pop off (HTC EVO).
Surely this issue (some say yes and some say no) isn’t something Apple will ever get through. The company is doomed I tell you, DOOMED!!!!!!!

      • EggoEspada

Uhuh. Just like the iPhone was known to always break easily and drop calls occasionally. So what did they do? They made it all glass and put the antenna outside! That fixed the problem…

I don’t care what your personal preference is, I have nothing personal against the iPhone, But realize Apple ain’t perfect. No need to troll around here, go to Gizmodo or something.

      • Bob

I see this as something similar to Toyota. I had a friend who was going to buy a new car and said “I’m buying a Toyota”. I asked why and got the reply “because they’re the best”. That’s it. That was their reason. Toyota’s reputation is what made my friend go buy a Toyota. A couple weeks later is when all the media exploded about their runaway cars and numerous safety concerns.

I don’t own an iphone or an Android phone at this point, but it seems to me that many more people buy iphones because they are said to be good and, of course, you’re wicked cool if you have one. Personally, I probably would at least consider an iphone if it were on a decent carrier.

Why is Jarrett running all over this topic anyway? This is an Android article, so why shouldn’t people be excited about it? Stop trying to shut people down.

All that being said, I want to check out a DX when I can find one in the store to play with, but I may wait for the D2 to come out to compare. I’m really curious about what WP7 is going to be like, though, since we’re looking at different OS’s.

      • Rob D.

Because Jarret is on a mission to open the eyes of the world to how great and holy Apple is. That they can do no wrong or ever make a shoddy product.

Apple is the king. Which is why everyone uses a Mac and PC’s are for those who don’t know anything about technology and can only use things that are simplified and easy to use.

  • egg street

Jarrett needs to get a life. Its like fine you are a Apple Fanboy so go to macforums and troll there with your other misinformed/ignorant friends

  • EggoEspada

I’m not surprised. Motorola usually does well with stock.
Cause it might just be that they did this just because to add to the hype. You know how these things work these days, make it seem like a high demand. I’m sure there is, but they want to make it seem bigger.

  • RF Weeny

Funny. There are iPhone betas being tested at Qualcomm, and dare I say, LTE chipsets. VzW will have Apple, but wait for a CES announcement.

    • Drew

You have proof? You work for Qualcomm? Oh yeah, I’m sure you do, and your the only employee there that did not have to sign a non-disclosure so you’re able to tell us it’s in testing and will likely have an LTE chi set and it’s landing on VZW soon. Or maybe, just maybe you read this online so it must be true. It’s one of the two… you tell us which?

You know what else it true… when iOS hits version 5 your iPhone will be able to transform into a house and you can live in it. At least that’s what I read online so it must be true!

  • J

I work for and we are indeed getting more. Verizon can sell phones that are not yet in their posession. It is called virtual inventory.

    The phone sold well!

  • http://(null) jayrodathome

but I just got the x hoping it would be easier to root!! lol. ahwell now I have both. really shouldn’t be complaining.

I’m waiting for the Droid Y to come out and then, and only then, I might consider giving up my EVO and going back to Verizon.

  • http://(null) jayrodathome

    @jakol
that is bullshit. verizon won’t force content control on the iPhone. they don’t force content on the droid? why would they change that with apple? I think verizon would love to get the iPhone just to stick it to AT

  • Nhowell14

A recent study has shown that different phones cater to different types of consumers, for instance the Majority of Android-type smart phones are mainly purchased by teens-middle aged highly intelligent males and females that enjoy being able to have complete customization control. whereas the iphone is mainly purchased by the “lets jump on the bandwagon” consumer, people that have no unique personality, or that have insecurities and try to make up for it by owning a popular product. To “fit in” so to speak. Which i find very interesting considering thats usually what you see, stupid fratboys or girls that have no personality with an iphone, but the person that has the droid is usually the more intellectual of the two. there are some that dont fit this descripton of course. just some food for thought people…..

    • Bob

Definitely a few outliers here and there. I do know a couple dumb people who own Droids and one smart person who owns an iphone. Haha. Nice point, though. I definitely agree, though, that the iphone is for the trendy crowd.

    • Nhowell14

on a side note, the phones can be great in their own aspect, but its truly up to the carrier that makes or breaks the experience of the phone…At&t in my personal opinion is the worst carrier out there, and Verizon is the best. A company that has shit for 3G coverage and advertises that it has the nations largest WIFI…coverage….(really At&t?!?!) is not a company i want to give 100 bucks a month.

      • Nhowell14

oh and really bad customer service and false advertising for the fastest 3G network (that goes to T-mobile oddly)

    • John

Um, I guess you are unfamiliar with the jailbreaking that many (including myself) do to have that “customization”. The problem with the Android OS is that it isn’t a consistent market. *gasp* WTF is he talking about? I mean that there is no requirement for developers to maintain standards in keeping the apps current with OS whether it is 2.0, 2.1 and so on. That means an app developed on Android 2.0 is not guaranteed to work in 2.1 or even a (?) future 3.0 revision. So what do you do with the money you spent on the app?

    • Doesn’t matter

Your an idiot. The is no physiological way for you to even think about classifying a person character based upon the pho e they chose to buy.

      Please go kill yourself

  • JAG

Well, at least if they sold about 100k in the first day, is a great initiation.

I hope they sell more than a million

  • dogmop

I ordered mine in the morning and I just checked and mine is on the way.

    I can’t wait. I hate my Pre.

    • braine

      I feel for you.

  • Nhowell14

After having the original Moto Droid since its release, i have to admit i think its starting to show its age. SO after reading these blogs and playing around with a couple Droid X’s, I decided to try and give Verizon a call and see if i could get an early upgrade, if not i would go to sprint for the EVO 4G. Not 5 mins later she was ensuring me that i would get one from the batch that will ship out on the 23rd and they threw in a silicone case for customer satisfation. so just a recap, i got a Droid X with a free case for 200 bucks when i havent even had my droid for a year. Thats the kind of customer service one expects from their wireless provider…

  • -Pagan-

I picked my Droid X preorder up from Best Buy yesterday. I was lucky to be number 6 of 15. Left my 3GS behind and no regrets.

I LOVE THIS PHONE! Really pleasantly surprised at battery life. Screen is best i’ve seen. Data and browsing FAST! Great phone.

  • SB606

VZW overnighted the phone took the office. Activation was a breeze. Posted from a Droid X.

  • Chris Hutch

I picked up a Droid X at a Staples in LA. I received excellent customer experience and they had the Incredible as well. I went to the store in Santa Monica on Wilshire.
