Chatr phones begin to arrive at big box retailers

Chatr handsets

Chatr, Rogers Wireless’ new cost conscious brand, is beginning to send inventory to big box retailers. As we detailed last month:

Created to serve what Rogers calls a “niche” market that is not currently served by its flagship and value brands Rogers Wireless and Fido, chatr will offer no contract voice and text plans as well as unlimited talk and text plans. Data is not a part of chatr’s game plan. According to Rogers, the big draw of chatr is not only its great plans, but that for the first time it gives urbanites who simply want to make calls and send texts affordable service from a “network they can trust.”

A launch date has not been officially announced, however a new source of ours pegs July 21st as the new network’s go-live date. Any of our friends north of the border jazzed about chatr?

No..who the hell uses their device for talk and text any more anyways? If it wasn’t for wrong numbers, half the time I’d forget my device even had a phone portion.

Talking yes, but texting…That has taken over the main use of cell phones.

      Uhhh….lots of people.

They should invest in greater plans for their loyal members. I hate that I always have to threaten them to leave if I don’t have what I want…30$ for a gig/month is a joke

please proof read your articles. it can be very frustrating at times.

How about actually pointing out what you disagree with, rather than making a useless comment like this.

      • Andrew Munchbach

I put “being” instead of “begin” in the title. T’was my fault.

@navi,seriously? Quit being a douche bag! It’s the internet, not a f*cking term paper.

If you feel it be necessary to critizes others errors, shouldn’t your name and the first letters of sentences be capitalized?

  • jarr

Canada is different than the U.S. – we have never had brands like metropcs and leap like you guys.

The more cmpetition in the Canadian mobile market the better. Too long has Bell, Telus, and Rogers had complete market share where they could charge whatever they wanted. Seriously, $30+ a month for unlimited data. It has only been in the past year people I know have had cell bills un $50 per month with features. CHATR will be interesting for the cheap phone market. I wonder if bell will do something similar?

      it’s called Virgin and Solo

if anyone was “jazzed” about getting one of these chatr phones that don’t offer data they wouldn’t appreciate a site like this, would have read the article, and thus wouldn’t leave a comment on this. the people that are jazzed about this are riding a bus right now listing to a Walkman and have no idea that chatr exists yet.

Rogers needs to go to hell. They are of the devil. No way I would use any of their products again. They will surely find a way to gouge chatr customers as well… that’s the only thing reliable about that company.

Chat’r is using a home calling zone thing, and will only be in 5 cities, so this isn’t really going to drum up much in the way of competition. Roger’s is just trying to take out Wind. If you leave your calling zone, you’ll be charged roaming fees. Currently Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto and Ottawa will be covered, and not even fully. Pretty lame since they’re just using Roger’s towers, why infuriate people on the edge of the cities when you could just use the towers anyway?

    • Baester

so all the other brands that launched didn’t drum up competition either b/c they are urban plays too.
