Vibrant_DROID X

Let’s be honest, you don’t need a reminder. You’ve had this date circled on your calendar for weeks… and rightly so. Today, both T-Mobile and Verizon will release what is sure to be known as their flagship Android handset. T-Mobile is releasing the Samsung Vibrant — their version of the Samsung Galaxy S — for $199 on contract. The Vibrant comes with a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor, Super AMOLED display, 5 megapixel camera, and Android 2.1. Verizon is offering the Motorola DROID X — also for $199 on contract — which packs a 4.3″ display, 1 GHZ Texas Instruments OMAP3630 processor, 8 megapixel mechanical shutter camera, and Android 2.1. Tis’ a great day for Android fanatics. Do let us know if you pick one of the new handsets up!

I like the Droid X, but after playing with the Vibrant I think the latter will make a better personal phone.

I also travel to the UK 4-5 times per year.

So far no VZW Android’s support international GSM roaming. Stupid if you ask me.

The screen on the Vibrant looks sharper and more pollished. It’s also not so wide.

This is the first Samsung I actually like. Super slim, sleek and the voice quality is incredible.

My only gripe is a lack of flash on the camera but honestly I rarely take photos with my phone and when I do it’s usually outside during the day and such.

I’m getting a grip of these Vibrants for my IT engineers. They are stoked!

This is all great news all around. I love Android. Although I prefer T-Mobile I’m still glad to see all the Droid love across all carriers…. something Apple is too stubborn to do.

    Android FTW

Is it just me, or does anyone else like having back keys and a trackball? I checked out the Galaxy S today and it looks and feels good very thin and sleek. BUT navigation felt a bit odd. ?

My boss traded in his Blackberry Bold and bought the Droid X and I upgraded from my G1 and bought the Vibrant. Both great phones, but the Vibrant is a lot lighter and easier to handle. It feels good in the hand. The Droid X feels like awkward and big.
Don’t get me wrong, The Droid X is amazing as is the Vibrant. But I have to say I’m liking the Vibrant better!

Its quite strange that the T-Mobile website does not even advertise the Samsung Vibrant on its main page. It shows up only when you look at the list of all their Android phones.

But my biggest disappointment is that it does not support UMA (Wi-fi calling). I’ve been waiting for an Android phone that supports UMA. I wonder if T-Mobile realizes that there are a lot of customers staying with T-Mobile just because of UMA support…otherwise its bad coverage will certainly make a lot more customers drop their service, UMA is their saving grace.

I guess I will have to stick with my Blackberry 9700 for a while longer. The only UMA phones they carry are a couple of Blackberry Models and Nokia E73x…very disappointing.

My feeling is that its time to move to Sprint and get the EVO or the upcoming Samsung Epic 4G.

Just in case most of you don’t know, T-MOBILE along with other companies are in financial trouble, analysts are saying that T-Mobile may not be around in 2011, so brace yourself. Verizon is always a safer bet, stay tuned, the best is yet to come. If you don’t believe me, then search online for the future of T-Mobile..

I am afraid that the Droid X will be the most talked about smartphone in 2010. You have Google, Adobe, and Verizon doing mass marketing for this device. Glad I ordered the Droid X after midnight to avoid the rush and crazyness, oh, I almost forgot, $100 online instant rebate which makes it $199, but heard it has recently sold out online until July 23, wow…

      You fell for that too?

You really think that DT, with over 150 million customers worldwide, will just let its US subsidiary fail?

      Don’t think so buddy.

BGR readers buy phones for today not tomorrow. Most of us don’t even keep one longer than 6 months. You are preaching to the wrong choir.

Congrats, JET screwing up this by your mis-quoting..

it’s Sprint. $20B in heavy debt, no positive sub gains since 2007 I’m sure that’ll see Sprint enter in MARKET APOCALYPSE before I see T-Mobile go down in 10 years less.

**I don’t believe everything you read on the “internet troll”. You believe him as Nostradamus.**

you must not know tmobile is putting up a new network across the US that will make it the largest 4g capable speed network. And it wont be around til 2011? i doubt that sir. dont buy into the hype

Just bought the Samsung Vibrant. Awesome phone!

LOL.. First off if the carrier dies. The customers are still there. If T-mobile were to fail they would get purcahsed by another carrier.. Users would not feel any ill effect.. (Not in the begnining) Also to note. Check the financial status of the companies. T-Mobile’s overseas operations have alot of capital and they were set to purchase Sprint… Yes T-Moblie is small here in the states however you must remember that there are part of Detuch Telcomm.. (an overseas area). I am in the Army and I have been overseas quite a bit. The cell phone markets over in Europe are not in that much trouble. Now if Sprint or Verizon were to introduce an Android handset that had CDMA and GSM simliar to the Touch Pro 2 that Sprint has…. I can almost gurantee they whould grab most of the Android marketshare just having the option of taking the phone overseas without the outrageous roaming rates would be enough for anyone to switch.
