Android 2.2 and 2.1 with Sense ported to the HTC HD2

General

froyo-android22-htc-hd2

It’s the epitome of cruel irony- folks who were brave enough to score one of the last Windows Mobile handsets are enjoying the latest OS Android has to offer while the rest of Android world waits idly for Froyo to land on their non-Nexus One handsets. HTC HD2 owners need to look no further than xda-developers to discover a treasure trove of updated ROMs which offer stock Android 2.2 or Android 2.1 with Sense. Though a bit rough around the edges, these ROMs give HD2 owners some serious bragging rights over their Android counterparts, at least for the time being.

      “First” is the worst.

Man android can’t be stopped !! i wonder if some of the other windows phones out can work with this…

    • Horaz

I have a HTC Touch Cruise (the first, el Polaris 100) running FroYo. From the SD card right now, but I can flash it anytime I want..

  • DanG

If it could be ported to my EnV2 I would be impressed…lawl

  • NuShrike

Faster than the Wimpy7s port to HD2. Hah!

    What a waste of time.

    • Thablackguy

no you commenting was a waste of time…

  • Justin

Android sucks. 2.2 is like Bigfoot or a freaking unicorn. Have fun with your craptastic OS and your crappier Google support which doesn’t actually exist.

    • Thablackguy

Can we say H-A-T-E-R ?? and everything you’ve said has all been proven otherwise… anything else to say ?

      You suck you japs eye!

  • Justin

We released 2.2 but no one can have it. Congrats!

    • Horaz

      Error,
      Everybody CAN have it…

I have FroYo running in a HTC Touch Cruise, btw, this phone have 400mhz processor and Windows Mobile 6…,

But thanks to some people (at XDA-Developers forum), Android works, ’cause the source is there, go and do what you want…

XDA-developers rock! The best part of owning a WinMo phone is the support of XDA. Whether you’re looking for a cooked ROM or an Android port, XDA-developers will make your phone better.

I’m running 2.2 on my Touch Pro 2, and even though it is very rough around the edges it runs incredibly smooth.

    HD2 in the hizz-ouse

I am not sure how they are enjoying Froyo before the rest of us. I have AOSP 2.2 on my CDMA Hero and it runs perfectly. I would venture a guess that almost every handset out there has a 2.2 port if you are willing to root and go with a custom ROM.

Glad to know the HD2 is getting a worth OS, but they aren’t leaving the rest of us behind.

“rough around the edges” that translates to play toy and not reliable phone…Im glad i sold my HD2… i love the hardware but if the software isn’t reliable without crash or constant reset…what good is it outside of show and tell?! NICE WORK…but i doubt anyone will spend the time to perfect it.

patience is the key thats y ur locked out

Somebody got a working link? The Froyo stuff I got off XDA does an infinite-loop at the Google X logo on my T-Mobile HD2, so …

    • NuShrike

Found the dan link. The gamesquare link doesn’t have a working build.

Anyways, works great now although the Sunspider benchmark (on WiFi) is much slower than even Opera 10. Otherwise, surprisingly not too laggy with a feeling of a nice fast engine behind all slick UI.

      A fresh breath after WM.

my favorite part from xda “calling is working except that the person on the other end cant hear you, and you cant hear what they are saying”

    • Tim

The phone is working, the sound is not on the microphone. A phone is more than a microphone, you know it has a lot of other components.

    • NuShrike

Calling works fine. Had a long talk with a recruiter while testing Android.

I’ve been enjoying this on my HD2 for a few days now and its really nice. no plans on flashing my ROM if and when that’s available but I will make use of this on my phone. Love the ability to switch between Winmo and Android when I feel like it. And no more complaining about a lack of apps!

  • ImTheMommy

Okay….I know this will probably sound really lame to most of you, but ummmm…… how in the world do I do this??? Where do i find this “build”, and can a dummy do this??? Thanks in advance for your help!

  • gbdon101

i have android working on hd2. The only thing that is not working is that I cannot hear the other person who is speaking to me. They can hear me, the wifi works everything works., I just have to figure out this last part for it to be fully functional.
