AllThingsD: HP’s Android slate delayed, won’t ship before end of the year

Previously, HP had stated that they were on track to release an Android tablet before the end of 2010. Now, according to the sources of AllThingsD, this timeline is no longer valid. “HP’s Android slate has been delayed and won’t ship before the end of the year as planned,” wrote ATD. HP has, through its own admission, been developing a Windows 7, webOS, and Android tablet simultaneously. Perhaps this is a sign that HP is refocusing its efforts on its newly purchased webOS? Whatever the reason, we look forward to HP jumping into the tablet market.

    Since they own WebOS, why would they be working on any other tablet?

    They can do whatever OS they want, Android or Windows 7 is fine, but HP needs to be very clear on their motives with WebOS or a lot of people aren’t going to invest in the platform at all.

    What I can’t understand is why anyone thought this product would be ready sooner!

    If this product is not going to suck, It will be 2nd Q 2011 at the earliest.

    Google’s strategy of releasing a new OS every six months is coming back to bite them in the rear.

    HP really has no choice — even if it didn’t have WebOS to work on, it wouldn’t be bothering with Android 2.2, By year’s end you’ll have both Chrome OS (I HOPE!) and Gingerbread, and maybe then a GoogleTab MAY be safe to develop. Anyone who develops (or buys) an Android tablet before Gingerbread’s baked is just masochistic.

    Just like the rest of us, HTC and HP, have seen the iPhone 4 mess, and what can happen when a product is not totally ready for the real world.

    I think those companies are being very wise by not falling for the hype, and wait until they have a solid product they can trust that it will be accepted by consumers.
