Microsoft COO: It looks like the iPhone 4 might be Apple's Vista

General

Kevin Turner

Sometimes, company executives provide the best one-liners. Microsoft’s chief operating officer, Kevin Turner, was speaking at Microsoft’s Worldwide Partner Conference in Washington D.C. when he let this little cherub go:

“It looks like the iPhone 4 might be their [Apple's] Vista, and I’m okay with that.”

But the COO wasn’t done there, he also went on to say, “One of the things I want to make sure you know today is that you’re going to be able to use a Windows Phone 7 and not have to worry about how you’re holding it to make a phone call.” Burn, Kevin, burn. The quotes are funny, albeit useless, and inject some humor into the following situation: Apple’s flagship product is having several reception issues and Microsoft’s current mobile OS is two years behind the rest of the smartphone market. Wait… that’s not funny.Read

And what does that have to do with this? They don’t make smartphone hardware so they have no clue what they are talking about. I would see how their hardware would be if they could make their own. How about they stick to making their buggy software? Coming soon to a mobile device near you.

      Don’t be mad.

god knows…they could have bought HTC:p

Windows Phone 7. Lamest…mobile OS…name…ever. At least before you could say you have a Windows Mobile phone. Now you have to say you have a Windows Phone phone? Laaaaame. Microsoft’s naming department must be asleep at the wheel these days. The phones may end up being great, but the platform name is just downright clumsy, and unimaginitive.

      Agreed!

Even Apple thought OS X Mobile (also 5 syllables) is too long, and shortened it to iOS. This also points out it’s not just mobile, something Microsoft doesn’t seem to GET.

It seems the onyl time this guy’s comments make the news is when he brings Apple into the equation. I remember him last year saying he was thrilled about those latop hunter ads. Hey whatever happened to those ads, by the way?

See you next year, Kevin. Let’s compare WP7 and iPhone sale data. Should be a hoot. Just as an FYI, the current numbers (all-time) are as follows:

50 million iPhones (plus another 50 million iOS devices)
    0 Windows Phone 7
    503 Kins

Wow. WP7 has managed to make even the Kin look like a winner.

      1 million defective i phone 4′s.

Apple might want to let the experts make their next phone. One that can be held with both hands.

damn…to think I just wanted the thing, to record my quarter mile blast down the track for my daughters viewing, then turn around and show her friends how proud she is of her dad, then turn around again, and give her the Iphone 4, with the captured vid of her daddy making a run in the GN:p My freaking bb bold cannot handle it…heard the iphone has a great vid/cam hardware in it also..no comment on the antenna, but hopefully will have that fixed by time I can afford to get it for her:p

Does Microsoft have any employees under the age of 40?!

  • Stromson

I love Microsoft, I really hope they nail this Windows Phone 7 thing.

  • Elektra

That was a low blow and uncalled for Microsoft. Iphone4 is no MS Vista. Despite all the attacks towards the iphone4, it’s still a successful device. Iphone4 users are happy with their iphones. I couldn’t say the same for Vista users.

“Apple’s flagship product is having several reception issues and Microsoft’s current mobile OS is two years behind the rest of the smartphone market. Wait… that’s not funny.”

Ah. BGR. Always the Cupertino cheerleader.

    Thats funny!

Apple should not be too onion skinned with these kind of comments from fellow executives of the industry. It is their fault on releasing sub standard gadget in today’s high tech world. They should have tested their prototype first before its release.

  • sirpaul

True, although the ‘not having to hold the phone a certain way’ joke has been used at least twice before by a mojor company…not very original joke lol. Though the point remains the same.

    What’s worse:

Executives making bitch-ass comments about their competitors? (See also Sony, Nintendo, et al).

    *OR*

Gay ass fanboys who take it to heart and get all emotional over it? Some of you deserve a beating.

If iOS4 is Apple’s Vista… then Snow Leopard must be Apple’s ME… seriously, 10.6 is garbage.
