iPhone 4 carrier unlock possible, not yet available for public consumption

Kudos to the iPhone dev team as member @Planetbeing has successfully unlocked the iPhone 4. The proof is in the picture above, which shows Bell Canada as the carrier for the iPhone 4, an impossible situation made possible by a successful carrier unlock (as the iPhone 4 has not been released in Canada). Eager iPhone 4 owners looking to duplicate this task themselves will have to wait, as the tools for the unlocking are not yet available for public consumption and most likely won’t be until after Apple releases it impending “antenna fix” update. Stay tuned and we will let you know when the unlocking tools finally drop.

    This could very well be an iPhone 4 purchased in France which is factory unlocked by Apple. All you would need is a Bell Sim Card.

    That picture is not proof of anything. I was just near Canada with my locked, non-jailbroken AT&T phone, and I roamed over to the Bell Canada network and it looked exactly like that. It just showed Bell in the top status bar, and I didn’t do anything special to make that happen.

    #1 Bell in Canada has HSPA (gsm) and CDMA.

    #2 who cares if you unlock this failed phone, if you can’t get service without putting tape on the side or holding it with you thumb and index finger in a specific spot.

    The Cydia app MakeItMine (MIM) will change the carrier name to anything the user decides. This could be just using that program. Just playing devil’s advocate…

    But in any case, I can’t wait for a userland jailbreak and unlock to be released to the wild. I also can’t wait for the iPhone to come out in Canada… >_< Guess my Motorola Milestone will do for now…

    This is real and he has a video out to prove it. This dude is also part of the iPhone devteam who made alot of the pervious jailbreaks and unlocks, so it’s 100% authentic. All u fandroids can kill the noise.

    I’ll just go on a vacation to France and buy the phone there. There’s no need to unlock these phones, many of them are already sold unlocked in other countries, it’s only USA that’s “special.”
    This way you will always have your phone working post any updates.
