Netflix's traffic soars for the month of June

comScore traffic data is out for the month of June, and according to Citi analyst Mark Mahaney, the most recent figures reveal that Netflix’s traffic is soaring. The number of visitors to Netflix’s website has jumped 46% year-over-year for the month of June and 34% year-over-year for the second quarter. This huge jump in traffic is presumably due to ballooning usage of Netflix’s popular online video streaming service which lets Netflix customers watch movies and television episodes on their PC, Mac, or the iPad via an Internet connection. With Blockbuster potentially headed to bankruptcy, VUDU and Boxee still trying to sign distribution deals and content partners, and other services like Hulu Plus and RoxioNow still in the early stages, Netflix will continue to post impressive statistics as it retains its position as the king of online video subscription services.

Will this ever come to Android?

    • AndyS

I assume so. They’ve had andriod jobs posted on their website for several months.

For instance, this is up there now:

      “Android Video Playback Expert
      Los Gatos, CA

      The Position:
Netflix is looking for a great engineer to help us build Instant Streaming client implementations on Android devices.

      About you:
You are a senior engineer with a strong background in embedded and mobile development, specifically on media-enabled devices. You have a deep understanding of the idiosyncrasies of these platforms as well as solid experience with Internet client/server programming in general. You have implemented video playback on Android-based devices. You like to work hands-on and self-directed in a fast-paced, growing organization that gives you room to apply your expertise to solve big technical challenges. “

Yessir Netflix gets much play on my PS3/XBOX360/laptop….And when the Android app drops, it will get much play on my N1 too….These numbers should really be a wake up call to Cable/Satellite providers to drop those bullsh!t prices. Data speeds are slowly but surely increasing which means more and more content will be available(legally) online at affordable rates. So especially to Comcast I say: Wake up and smell the f%#kin fiber or eventually find yourself obsolete. The days of cheap introductory rates will soon come to an end. NETFLIX FTW!!

HAHA… so long DirecTV…. I canceled them last month.

Never did want to wait to get my movies to watch. Now that the streaming app works on our Wii and computers, I decided to try it.

Can’t say enough positive about it. Watching streamed shows and movies (watching firefly series right now on the Wii) while waiting for the shipped ones to show up is awesome!

No need for HBO and the others in my house anymore.

The number of NetFlix selections I stream has increased exponentially since getting an iPad.

We stream to our ps3, wii, and iPad. I love the service. We don’t even get the DVDs through the mail. In the 6 months we have had service the movies have gotten better and better. I am hoping they don’t get too popular and raise the prices like cable. You know the first hit is always free!

Love Netflix streaming. Been streaming off my PS3 and now the Wii and love it. Cancelled cable for the 2nd summer in a row. If only NBA ganes were offered streaming, i could get rid of cable
Completely. The movie selection had greatly improved and its so much cheaper then cable. Movies and shows at my convenience. I love it!

We use XBOX 360 and PS3 for Netflix streaming. Rarely will use computers and no Apple mobile “i” devices.

now if they would just release a damn iphone app. its not like they even bothered to make an actual app; it’s just a port of the netflix website so i don’t know what the delay is.

  • John B

In my area, it was Hollywood Video. Now they’re gone, so it’s Netflix or nothing.

    I’m pretty sure

Just so everyone has a little more understanding as to why cable companies and dish providers are having to raise prices so often I thought I would share some information. You need to be aiming your contempt at the programmers (HBO, CNN, MTV, etc.). They continue to raise their rates to the providers. Local stations have also gotten in on the act where they went from paying cable companies to offer their programming they now charge cable companies to retransmit the local NBC, ABC, etc. affliate content.

I know some cases where programming costs account for over 55% of every dollar and then you still have to buy equipment to provide customers and roll trucks to install services. The margins on video delivery are extremely thin.

Netflix coming to Canada anytime soon?

  • Larry

I am a Netflix junkie! I do not have cable at all anymore. Just High speed internet and netflix and I do not the bills. Screw paying for over priced cable television, half the time I could never find anything to watch anyway.

  • Larry

Haha, for got to finish my sentence with “miss the bills”
