Phil McKinney, VP and CTO for HP’s Personal Systems Group, was at the MobileBeat 2010 conference on Monday showcasing some of HP’s innovative products. One product receiving a good amount of attention is a low-power, mylar-based flexible display capable of playing video. McKinney offered a tantalizing morsel for webOS diehards by stating that “these are the kinds of display technologies that will change what we think of in form factors, both in products from Palm with flexible displays, and with HP.” Good news for Palm and webOS supporters as these comments indicate again that HP is in for the long haul with webOS and  is looking to integrate the mobile OS into products that are coming soon as well as those that are years away.

Why with HP/Palm do I have that “I’ll believe it when I see it feeling”?

I can’t wait for new hardware…esp when it includes the big $$ from HP!!

Yay another dead OS…even if it is cool…long live iOS and Android. Maybe HP will allow for a come back, I doubt it though…at least not on a large scale

Yup,I will drop android like a hot potato when palm Announces new hardware and a revamp of the new Webos.

I see no need for this. From what I’ve read, the Palm Pre screen is already quite flexible (not sure if that’s a good thing though).

I would like to see hints of HP’s marketing strategy for webOS-based products. The “It looks cool and runs webOS” approach didn’t work so well for Palm.

HP’s biggest problem is lack luster hardware (mobile hardware)

The laptops are all ugly but sell like hot cakes (Best Buy helps) but their hardware is usually flooded with bloat and crapware.

I’m not excited for this at all and I was rooting for WebOS back when Palm was still going under and before they released the Plus series

Palm really mismanaged it’s business. They went from being way ahead, to falling way behind. And when they jumped ahead again via webOS, it still was not enough to save their bacon. Is it possible that HP can avoid Palm’s missteps? It would be great to give both iOS/Android a run for their money.
