Gartner: Symbian still dominant but falling fast

Nick Jones of Gartner published a brief research note on his blog that paints a bleak picture of Symbian. According to Jones, Symbian is still the dominant platform, but it is losing market share at an accelerating pace as rivals like Android and iOS continue their upward trend. Jones is equally bearish regarding the future of Symbian and points to a product roadmap that is filled with features like audio policy packages, WiFi direct, and other similar additions that are of little interest to consumers. He even goes so far as to suggest that the Symbian Foundation should invest in some skunkworks projects or launch a design contest as a contingency plan in case Symbian^4 fails to deliver as promised. Wow. So what do you think, is this admonishment undeserved or does the Symbian Foundation and Nokia need a wake up call?

Thanks, johnny99!

What killed Symbian is the desastrous implementation of it that Nokia did on his Best-Of Breed HW Smartphones. Was not done properly on my N95-8GB and was NEVER completed via SW up-grades afterwards.
Things that had been perfectly working with Symbian on my previous Sony-Ericsson V800 3G phone, never worked properly on N95-8G, like critical Voice recognition for the car, like datas backup from PC, like Lotus Notes calendar replication…etc. Not Symbian issues since all that worked on other Brands, just Nokia Issues. Nokia provided best HW with ZERO SW skill put on top of it, leaving users down, as if Company heads NEVER used their Smartphones for themselves. And now they continue with a restart from Zero Linux adventure. DON’T count on me this time Nokia. Either you learn how to implement Androïd properly on your best HW, or will have to forget me.
