Apple to replace defective Time Capsules manufactured in early 2008

Apple announced last week via a support bulletin that it is replacing defective Time Capsules manufactured between February 2008 and June 2008. The defective units are plagued by a power problem that causes the unit to either not power on or power off unexpectedly. If you experience this problem, contact Apple, an authorized service center, or setup an appointment at your local genius bar to arrange for a repair or a replacement. Good news for those who already paid for a repair; Apple is going to issue a refund for the complete cost of the repair service. Hit the link for the contact information, serial numbers of affected units, and more on Apple’s support site.

For users of the iPhone 4… please place said iPhone 4 in Time Capsule and bury. This should help reception issues.

      • StevieJobs

…..in the mean time we will address those iPhone 4 reception issues with a recall in 2012.

Replace “Time Capsules” with “iPhone 4″ and “early 2008″ with “Q2 & Q3 2010″, and you have a preview of a headline you’ll see here in about 3 months.

Apparently Apple is already planning, documenting and staffing (in Asia, OF COURSE!) for the rework process.

    Cheaper than a class-action settlement, I presume.

Steve, spend less time shopping for $600 turtlenecks, and more time at the helm of the boat. And ask Ives what the hell happened!!!

  • Sheed

Haha, this is post is the equivalent of throwing a bloody carcass into already shark infested waters. Queue up the standard Apple hating responses!

    • Sheed

Minus the first “is” of course.

    • StevieJobs

      Don’t be sad. Stay tuned.

      • Sheed

As luck would have it I took my defective time capsule down to the Apple Store on Saturday evening, 7/11/10. I was told that it was out of warranty and unable to be repaired. I plunked down $499.00 and left my old one at the store to have it recycled.

Imagine my surprise this am when I read the announcement. I went down to my local Apple Store, luckily they still had my unit, looked up the serial number and I got a $499.00 refund.

Really makes me appreciate apple store, the ability to get items serviced where it is sold and also the ability to have the soul of a company represented in my community.

This is funny I bet there will be a replacement iPhone in June 2011 for small fee if $200 lol and all the isheep will be in lines to replace their defective phones. Sad sad day. My friend just got 2 iPhones and called me pissed cause he was dropping about 30% more calls compared to his old iPhone when he’s holding it like he always did. He’s sending it back to ATT
