ATT 3G Tests NY,NY

AT&T has officially released a statement about why some users have been experiencing sub-par (and we do mean sub-par) upload speeds over the past several days. The statement reads:

“AT&T and Alcatel-Lucent jointly identified a software defect — triggered under certain conditions – that impacted uplink performance for Laptop Connect and smartphone customers using 3G HSUPA-capable wireless devices in markets with Alcatel-Lucent equipment. This impacts less than two percent of our wireless customer base. While Alcatel-Lucent develops the appropriate software fix, we are providing normal 3G uplink speeds and consistent performance for affected customers with HSUPA-capable devices.”

So there you have it, a software issue. Let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments.

Nice cover up and finger pointing practice they have here. Anyone else see the statement they made on facebook aimed to jab at BGR for discussing the “network throttling”. Come on ATT, get with the program.

well this fix better be soon because as soon as this problem happened the coverage went to shit where i live, i had never seen less then 5 bars of 3G since i got my iPhone when it first came out and ever since this problem i have had the worst service, only 1 bar of edge wont hold a 3G signal and even drops to GPRS service, thank god for wifi

The problem is spreading. Until today I had blazing download (up to 5MB/s) and upload speeds (1.2MB/s). Now, today, the downloads are around 1.2 MB/s and the uploads 25 kbps.

No updates on the fix? 3gs borders on unusable.
