Asustek: T-Mobile Garminfone is shipping as expected

Rumor

garminfone-t-mobile

Asustek is standing up to the press and refuting analyst claims that sales of the T-Mobile Garminfone are lagging. According to Asustek, the Garminfone is shipping as expected and consumer demand is positive. This statement seemingly contradicts a research note by analyst Yair Reiner who estimated that T-Mobile was selling a mere five handsets per store per week. Reiner crunched the numbers and calculated that T-Mobile has sold a meager 20,000 handsets since the Garminfone launched in early June. Despite its vehement objection to these numbers, Asustek did not provide sales figures; leaving us all wondering whether the Garminfone is indeed moving off the shelves as Asustek implies or is merely piling up in a T-Mobile warehouse waiting for a fire sale.

    At least it runs Android!

I really do notlike the UI of this phone. i know they want it to feel like a GPS device, but really, its not pretty. other than that it seems like a nice phone for people who use GPS alot and need reliable service.

The UI is ugly and they shouldn’t have simply ported it over from the AWFUL NuviFone, but if 20,000 people bought this thing within less than 1 month, I don’t see that as a negative thing. The price screams high-end but the Android part of this phone says low/mid-range.

I wonder how home/launcher replacements work on this phone?

Why does everyone hate the user interface of this phone? Does it bring back too many bad memories of the Nuvifone?

The UI seems intuitive and attractive.

If you dislike UI of this phone, Did you know that can also download the source, create your own Android, fix & terminate some bugs (if you can), and put that on the phone. Now Any company do that too.

I’m going with Yair on this one and actually think 5 a week sounds a little optimistic. There is nothing attractive about this phone at all and it will end up being another flop. I love Garmin GPS units and hope this will be their last attempt at a phone.

I played with this thing in store…. and honestly, I’m surprised it sold more than 10.

White? Black? Who cares? The same phone with the same antenna problems and proximity sensor issues.

Appple definitely dropped the ball with this one.

Oops, wrong thread. Disregard my previous post. Sorry.

Seriously, did Garmin learn nothing from the iQue 3600?

It’s best they stay software or PND, and make features that compel users to buy instead of pirate.
