BlackBerry Pearl 9100 bottom plate spotted with AT&T branding

General

ATT 9100 Kickplate

The kiddies over at PocketBerry found a parts supplier selling a AT&T branded bottom plate for a maroon BlackBerry Pearl 3G (9100). Hopefully, the parts existence – if genuine — indicates that the classic candybar handset will be headed to AT&T in the not-to-distant future. For those that need a quick refresher on what the Pearl 3G’s stat sheet looks like: 360×400 display, 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera, Wi-Fi b/g/n, GPS, 256MB of flash memory, 624 MHz processor, microSDHC (support up to 32GB), 1150 mAh battery, and BlackBerry OS 5.0. Man, things have been quiet up in Waterloo lately. Come on BlackBerry OS 6!

    I think I speak for a majority of people when I say…

    Who gives a shit

The nation’s most useless piece of hardware
On the nation’s most useless network

I’ve been waiting 4 this device!

@joe c well said. Amongst the worst pointless boring and insignificant articles EVER to be put up on BGR.
    @hackman you need help

  • Wow…

    *sigh*

    RIM…I can’t defend you forever…

    Blackberry is dead like Palm

far from that pal.. blackberry still has its market share. yes they need to something quick or they will start losing it but it is definitely no palm.

A close friend of mine works for AT&T and upon seeing this article, she laughed and exclaimed that she could not remember the last time her store sold a Blackberry Pearl.

That’s because AT&T doesn’t really sell the previous models anymore. The original Pearl, the 8100 is 4 years old, and the later incarnations, the 8110 and 8120 are only a year or two newer. They are not available online, and the stores don’t keep them anymore, presumably to make room for the 9100 Pearl 3G when it comes.

Personally, I’m waiting on the Pearl 3G to replace my 8100 (which still works, but is showing it’s age). My wife has the iPhone – nice toy – but I still like my Pearl. I’m just ready for 3G, Wifi and GPS.

That would be why they made and are selling a new one.

I know a lot of people that have been holding out for this phone, mostly women. Too bad RIM won’t do a simultaneous release across all carriers, it would be a huge seller. It will eventually, though.

it will be out end of the month or early next. and the pearl is loved by most ppl who carry it.. i dont care for the half keyboard but know a ton of ppl who love the compact size it offers

bb is a niche phone. great for the business aspect. it was never meant to be a consumer phone. i for one have no need for it but its a great part for the phone market. it doesn’t need to “get in the game” because it isn’t on the same plane as the android/iphone market. i just hope this doesn’t fall in a dumb arse pricing.

It took long enough for the phone to launch on a US carrier. Should be a big seller like the predecessor.

The lack of perspective that runs rampant amongst tech blogs is stunning.

Every phone is not meant to be the same. This Pearl WILL be successful, regardless of the snark provided by hardware whores. Not everyone wants a 3.7″ SuperAMOLED/Hummingbird/12MPX/32GB/1GB superphone. An even smaller percentage of the population will be able to leverage any of those features. Most Blackberry users want BBM, email, Facebook, Pandora and Google Maps and a decent web browser. People who prefer style to substance will already be purchasing an iP4/Android. This is not the target market.

I use a Incredible and a Tour. My Incredible is supposedly better for virtually all non-BES/BBM activities per mainstream groupthink. I cannot stress how much I love my Incredible, it’s an astounding device. Yet, for some reason, I end up using my Tour for 80% of all my activities. Its simply easier, more convenient and faster to do anything.

All of this misses the entire point of the Pearl: Size. You cannot find a functional smartphone that is even in the same ballpark as a Pearl. What is the competition? KIN One? An underpowered Pixi?

Not only will RIM sell a ton of these, but they will be sold in large part to an audience that may have not purchased a smartphone otherwise.

This is a no brainer for RIM to release. To mock them only shows ignorance. Choice is always a good thing. A lack of choice brings on stagnation….

Capt, great rant. I’m a geek have the money to buy any phone I want but I still hold on to my BB, because when I’m getting e-mails from the boss or some bitching customer BB just gets the job done. Is it slower? yes. Does the web browser blow? Absolutely. Does it get stuff done with the least amount of steps? always. Not everyone wants a super phone with horrible battery life, andriod phones are amazing but they just aren’t for me.

Interesting how “only” is misspelled in the ad.

I am excited about the phone. In fact, I can’t wait!!
