In a small but embarrassing snafu, Best Buy Mobile is proudly displaying the HTC Aria on the front of its Mobile Buyers Guide with 4G connectivity. An eagle-eyed reader noticed the aberrant 4G icon and was quick to point out that it does not belong on that particular Android handset which runs on a network that does not even feature 4G. Now, we realize that stock images of devices are loosely tossed around on marketing materials but you would think that the front cover of the Mobile Buyers Guide would be a bit more accurate, no? Full cover with the Aria front and center is after the jump.

Glad to know BGR is that short on news today…how about we report on story’s that might help people like how gameloft has full 3d games for android devices or how about how you can now root the aria and install custom roms, nah your right a silly Photoshop error is more important.

Hmmm…I’ve been thinking about the Aria. Thing is that with Android there’s always something better every 2-3 months. Decisions, decisions…

Go with capacitive. When ever it comes out

I scratched my head for a while when you said to go with the Capacitive. Then I realized you probably meant the Captivate. Too bad AT&T tends to cripple Android phones. They should have a 20 question exam at the AT&T stores and if you pass as a geek, they’ll un-cripple the phone for you.

No, I believe “defpoet” meant touch screen as opposed to “resistive”, but I could be wrong!

I think the bigger issue is people who make a big deal out of this kind of stuff. It’s a friggin weekly filled with dozens of product shots from multiple vendors. It’s not like they called out NOW WITH 4G! Honest mistake, move on.

Looks like any other Android phone HTC’s put out in the last year.

AT&T version of 4G is by using the Microcell at home.

  • CMC

4G, haha. They can’t even get 3G to work reliably. Or, did they just give up on that?

Actually no, I don’t think I have ever read a BBYM Buyers Guide that didn’t have at least 2-3 major errors.

    Every month it seems.

They have had incorrect pricing (and that is not counting the times they change the pricing after the new guide is released)
They have had incorrect features and specs (that is where most of the flaws lie, in the middle section with all the phones)
And don’t get me started on those ditzy girls who they put in the middle with tips….(well now I think they also include fat guys, who still are just as bad)

I don’t think anyone on the buyers guide team even has used a phone?

    PWNED!!!
    Mwaahhhhaaaaaa!!!
Why they didn’t notice the standby screen is from EVO?????

  • Albk

Sprint’s 4G is just marketing though. Mobile WiMAX is really transitional 3G, just like HSPA. Sprint advertises 3-6 Mbps, and the “EVO 4G” is capped at 4Mbps. That’s barely better than AT&T’s current 3.2 Mbps 3G, and not nearly as good as the 3.5G 7.2 Mbps AT&T is rolling out in several markets (probably more than WiMAX has, and definitely more useful places like cities with people in them).

The 3GPP definition of 4G is at least 100Mbps service. Sprint is just lying to get stupid people to get spec boners and think they are superior.

Who gives a damn bout the Aria. It’s a crappy ANDROID devices from the mind of AT&T thanks a bunch Steve Jobs and APPLE to keep fucking up the hardware from other manufactures for AT&T. Just glad I didn’t get it

  • matt

It reminds me of the day I bought the Invisible Shield for my Eris. They had a picture of it with Touch-Flo 3D. Why not just take a picture of the phone on? They make fools of themselves when they try hard photo shopping something from another product.
