Bell Canada to launch Samsung Galaxy S, will use Vibrant moniker

Bell CA Vibrant Banner

Bell Canada has announced that it will be launching the Samsung Galaxy S — bearing the name Vibrant — in the coming months. A splash page has been put up at http://galaxys.bell.ca and one of our “Ninjas from the North” was kind enough to shoot us an official Bell memo. The memo is a tad light on details (as in it doesn’t have any), but since the handset carries the same name as T-Mobile’s Galaxy S flavor (flavour for those of you in Canada) we can assume that the specs are the same; 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 4″ WVGA Super AMOLED display, 5 megapixel camera, and Android 2.1 (soon to be upgraded to 2.2). No word yet on a specific release date, but we’re hearing July from our sources. Hit the jump to check out the memo.

Thanks, Brendan!

Whoa! How’s Bell’s new network in TO? Is is good enough to switch?!

Yes I have a Nexus One on Bell’s network and I get great reception. According to SpeedTest.net app on my phone I get 1.8 Mbps up and anywhere from 2-4 Mbps down. The Nexus One has both 850 and 1900 MHz Bell uses. I am pretty sure the Samsung Galaxy S will only have 1900 MHz. I’m not sure how much of an impact that will have on performance.

Decent hardware from samsung as usual.
Though their styling, um, is less then desirable.

    World’s best screen???

Samsung really is taking no prisoners with their Galaxy handset assault

  • eric

Guess they didn’t get the memo. Samsung knows very well it’s not the best screen. False advertising.

    • Pete

Not really false advertising. It just depends on the perspective. The samsung screen is 10 times more efficient, and puts out a better dynamic range, but the resolution isn’t there yet.

Are you sure this is the world’s best screen? My brand-new iPhone 4′s screen looks pretty good. :p

I want this phone…but on Rogers. Both Rogers and Bell are launching the Wave. It’s rumored that the Galaxy S will be on another Canadian carrier. I’m hoping it’s on Rogers. Between this phone and the iPhone 4 for the best screen, depending on opinion…

my friend working for Rogers, and I saw him testing the AT&T captivate. expecting Rogers will have it launched in 2 months or so.

The Galaxy does have a better screen. The resolution on the iPhone 4′s retina display is overkill. Samsung has the right idea in making a bigger, brighter screen with the Super AMOLED. The resolution on my iPhone is pretty good already. The Galaxy S will be much better still, but why make such a high res screen like the retina if it’s no bigger? Size really does matter. I think Steve Jobs went the wrong way on this one. Super AMOLED all the way.

Screen comparatively against Iphone 4 is somewhat of a debate. While Iphone 4 has a higher resolution screen it does not match the vivid color that Galaxy S reproduces. Galaxy S also offers better viewing under direct sun light and energy savings. Besides S is Super/Smart/Stylish, except it looks like an Iphone 3gs, but whatever I’m buying this phone as soon as it comes out.

My only problem with this device is that, according to the T-Mobile website, it has no wifi. If is is true, I don’t know WTF T-Mo was thinking putting out a media device with no wifi. I think Verizon pulled it of

My only problem with this device is that, according to the T-Mobile website, it has no wifi. If this is true, I don’t know WTF T-Mo was thinking putting out a media device with no wifi. I think Verizon pulled it off because they have an amazing network. T-Mobile is short-handed in this department. Try watching YouTube without wifi or a solid 3G connection. Frustrating as hell. Sorry for the double posting.

Blue1k dont give people false info, that is for the TMOBILE version, the Canadian BELL version is like the ACTUAL i9000 Euro model, check the button config. It does run 850mhz 3g/3.5g as well folks

  • basily

Are you sure about the 850mhz? That’s not on the i9000 Euro model. Where are you getting your spec’s info from?

  • Junkdruggler

So what are the chances that the hardware is the same as the vibrant on tmo? The tmo version supports 3g on both tmo and at&t… If so I want this vibrant w the ffc
