Samsung Galaxy S Tweet

Here’s some good news for those of you thinking about picking up a Galaxy S variant. Samsung, by way of the tweet, has officially stated that: “Galaxy S phones will come with Android 2.1 and be upgradeable to Android 2.2 which will support Adobe Flash 10.1.” Not really much else that needs to be said. The Gally S can be found on AT&T as the Captivate, Verizon Wireless and U.S. Cellular as the Fascinate, and T-Mobile as the Vibrant in the coming months. Who’s excited?

Will samsung some day in the future update these phones beyond 2.2?

DROID X will be updated this summer. I’d rather go with MOTO

  • Richard

Samsung also said the behold II would get upgraded to 2.1.

don’t forget abt Sprint. It will have a physical keyboard and named the Epic 4G.

Avoid Sprint and Verizon if you want to use voice and data at the same time. (Tmobile and AT&T are the only players in the game that can do that right now.)

    ChuchChaz,

I think everyone has forgotten about Sprint. They are terrible. Their 4G is a joke.

    • Kenny

Sprint 4G is nice… IF you have it.

Plus, the Epic 4G is the only one with the front-facing VGA camera.

But, I like that the Verizon version (the Fascinate) has an LED flash. Wish the others had one. Too bad they didn’t announce release dates. Hopefully all these phones are coming in July.

My Samsung Galaxy S (European variant) has a front-facing camera too :) It’s a shame that feature gets shaved off of US phones so often. I mean, you can use it… as a mirror and umm.. I’m sure there will be more use for it later on.

      • Evan

@Kenny The Sprint version, the Epic 4G, has an LED flash too. IMHO it’s the best version hitting the US.

OF course they will be updated to 2.2. The more important concerns are when and if they will ever see an update after 2.2.

    • Chad D

Of course? Coming from the same people that said the Behold 2 would be updated? Don’t count on an update from samsung, unless you are planning on buying their next phone.

      • Doll

Exactly. Samsung has a horrible support track record. After the Instinct and Moment, I can’t see myself buying another Samsung device.

Google better get it’s act together with Android – it’s a great platform but how many versions are there? Updates are dependent on hardware mfg. IMHO, Google should get with the hardware guys and make sure OS updates are downloadable from Google – and not dependent on the hardware.

Because manufacturers like to add their own skins on top of the Android OS (and they tie it into the OS in many cases) this is almost impossible at the moment. With Gingerbread (next Android), this might change as Google is spending time on the UI. However, I personally doubt it will change much. Part of the appeal of Android is that OEMs can make it their own and create their own differentiating look/feel.

As long as the S stays does good in sales I think they will contunie to receive updates

The Behold II was promised 2.1 update? How is that coming along?

    Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!!

  • Joel

Epic also has an LED flash.

I have an iPhone 3GS I like a lot but. But after reading the specs of the phone Samsung Captivate on AT&T web site. I think I’m going to part from the iPhone. The phone has been around since 2007 and the only big thing Apple made with the iPhone was multi-task and changing the back ground.

    • Thompson

You don’t know what you’re talking about.

The iPhone 4 absolutely smokes the iPhone 3GS in several ways. Improved battery life. Faster processor. Front camera. Facetime. Better quality back camera (including a flash). High definition video. Thinner. More solid. Higher sensitivity antenna (as long as you don’t employ the “death grip”).

And the 3GS was no slouch either. It outperforms many of the wannabe smart phones, and absolutely obliterates the 2 year old 3G and the original from 2007.

And all you see is multitasking and background changes? Hell, even the 3GSS got those. You really REALLY don’t know what you are talking about, do you?

I live in the US but a friend of mine got a Galaxy S for me from Singapore and I’ve found it to be a great phone so far.

On the Froyo update: This is my first Android phone. How is the upgrade process handled. Directly from the phone/market or samsung apps? Or is it something I have to download and flash onto the phone via usb?

    Thanks for the help.

the samsung galaxyS is a far superior option than ip4. cant wait to dump my ip3

I will return my t-mobile galaxy s very soon unless they give me international version. The phone is good but it has no front face camera, and flash. What kind of moron decides to take all the best features away? I am done with all samsung phones coming to t-mobile in America.

  • bing-hater

the vzw rep i was talking to said that the fascinate was one of the few phones slated to get gingerbread (3.0)

  • Kyle

when will it be available for s-class samsung phones 2012 or later
does anyone know will 2.2 help this samsung epic or is it the way samsung has implemented the os?
my sprint epic is sluggish and sounds very distorted to most callers. erased my memory card twice all by itself, now. sprint gave me a new one. still the same this one doesn’t even no there is a sd card installed waiting for my third one . I also bought one for my son he has a bunch of different problems. but still says it just feel “bogged down” his words and don’t get me started on lack of battery life keep a charger with you at all times.
