I do not know one person who will need this much memory right now. I guess anywhere there’s multiple computers and people all using one? Oh well, it’s nice to know somewhere in the world a 3tb external hd exists.

I need this much memory RIGHT NOW!! I have a camera with a 15 megapixel camera that takes 1-2gigs worth of pictures every outing. Not even taking into account videos, and music. I’m currently working with about 4 external hard drives (1TB, 1TB, 320gb, 240gb) and the local drives of several PC’s.

Bob, I feel your pain with all of my various HDs lying around in some form of connectivity. I’d love to have a 3TB unit or two.

      Backups…

STORAGE. “Memory” usually refers to RAM…

Then you don’t know anyone with a home theater PC set-up.

I have nearly 2TB of DVD-quality films, approx 500+ films altogether. I am my own Netflix.

And I don’t pay for cable or satellite TV. Watch all TV streaming or downloaded.

Killah… you might want to re-think on how ‘with it’ you really are. (the word ‘killah’ being a great indicator…)

if you store your music at high quality 320kbs youd would need alot of room. Plus hd video.. Really you when you get into storing alot of media your going to need terrabytes.

You don’t NEED a Ferrari, but you want one because you can!! ;)

And this is coming in at a Ford price!

      • LetMeSpeakForEverybodyCauseMeSoSmart

Not really… 1TB drives are approx $80 if you’re not stupid and only shop at Best Buy… last I checked, 8 times 3 equals 24…. $240 for 3 individual 1TB drives. The price is on par.

Considering I just saw 2TB Hard Drives for sale @ Tiger Direct for $80. 80×3= 240.00 for 6TB. So for this, your paying for the HD’s and the enclosure so it is still a good deal.

ALTHOUGH… as an HTPC enthusist, I would get a NAS (unRAID, FreeNAS, etc.) instead. much cheaper and more options available.

I couldn’t trust that it would work for long based on my experience with Seagate drives.

Thats the bigger concern to me… 3TB for $250 is not a big deal… having 3TB worth of info on ONE device and it crashes… now THAT’S f***ked!

    • sirpaul

I have seagates 5+ years old used for backups and also typical file storage. No problems so far :) Maybe I got lucky.

  • snugs

$250 only gets you the drive w/USB 2.0. Firewire connectivity comes via a $50 adapter, and USB 3.0 via a $40 adapter. Forget this ripoff, and wait a few months for the next 3TB drive that includes these interfaces.

    Great, ill buy one

  • agg2001

HD movies are easily 4gig a piece – ripped down from MKV to a simply hd/stereo file. you do a DTS file you’re easily at 6-8gb. 3tb could be gone in a matter of a few months.

  • Blackula

Whenever they make this drive internal, i’ll get 4 and use it in raid and slave. I need more space damit! :D

  • sirpaul

More room for pirated movies! DVD backups!
