The iPad might be the cool tablet to own, but for busy business people who really need to get things done, there are things like the Cisco Cius. Announced today, the Cius is what Cisco likes to calls a “mobile collaboration business tablet.” Based on Android, the Cius weighs in at 1.15lbs. and features a 7″ touchscreen display, front-facing camera for multi-party video conferencing that records and streams 720p video at 30 FPS , Bluetooth 3.0 as well as support for Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and 3G/4G wireless networks. Pricing and a release date are unknown.

Interesting. I love the but for “busy people” statement. You do realize they will be goofing off like anybody else.

What I’d like to see are what business apps/colaborative tool that will be available. Outside of that nothing else indicated in the write up above points to business in particular. Those are features most have voiced on here want for… well goofing off.

This could be a boon for Android too. Cisco is a heavy weight when it comes to Enterprise. This device could help Android get a serious foot in the door. Only time will tell.

How do you folks think this will impact Blackberry usage within enterprise?

My initial take is that employees will still need a smartphone and this is more of a niche product where videoconferencing is important.

But I would like to know what you think – particularly if you are involved in making these types of decisions in your role.

I agree. If they employ encryption, could be a contender.

But the size is a little small. If a business used a Streak @ 5″, then a tablet at 12″, that would allow for more productivity. I’m not using a Excel on a 7″!!

I’m still waiting for the “Chrome Tablet”….

Hmmm. . .so tell me everything but when I can buy it and what it will cost? This thing is already a dud.

I look forward to android tablets putting pressure on the ipad. Apple is smart/stingy with their software and only allows cool new things for their devices once another device puts pressure on them. How else would you be able to justify it taking 3 years before you could finally customize your home screen background on the iphone?

Aaaah, this is what Jack Bauer was using in the latest season of 24!!

This is really a very niche product. Avaya (Cisco’s big competitor in the enterprise telephony space) announced something very similar about 6 weeks ago. Basically, a few exec’s might own this, it won’t get used and well, end of story

Wow – throw’n a little attitude at the fruit company. Do we start calling lemons apples now?

  • JackShiiii

Wow who just crapped in RIM’s mess kit…

Doesn’t matter what the underlying OS is or is based on. Cisco can be just a restrictive as Apple when they choose to be. All they’ll do is customise the OS and you still won’t have free reign to install any app and do anything you like. Cisco have built a portable video conferencing device not a tablet PC.

To other companies who not affiliated with Cisco, you just got burnnnnnnned :D

if it comes with the guy in the picture….I’d definitely get one!! LOL
