Short film shot and edited on an iPhone 4 should scare the pants off of Flip Video

We know there are a lot of doubting Thomases out there who think that the video capabilities of the iPhone 4 — both recording in 720p and editing on-device with iMovie for iPhone 4 — are grossly overstated. We even though the same thing, and everyone on staff has played around with an iPhone 4. But after watching “Apple of My Eye”, a short film by Michael Koerbel that was shot and edited on an iPhone 4, we admit that our initial thoughts were wrong. Hit the jump to check out the film. And watch out, Flip Video. Your days are numbered.

    @ Michael Bettiol,
Just an edit: I believe you meant “thoughT” instead of “though” in “We even though the same thing”.
Excuse if it posted multiple time, kept telling me there was an error upon posting.

Amazing! With that kind of video quality plus the iMovie app, anyone with imagination and a some editiong knowledge, can afford to produce a masterpiece like this one, without having to use expensive equipment. Kudos to those involved in this project.

really? a masterpiece? its a well done video for being shot and edited on a phone but it falls well short of a “masterpiece.”

I’m an apple fanboy but even I’m not this easy to please. Cute? Yes. A masterpiece? Not even close. Just like the people who think all it takes to take nice pictures is a fancy DSLR…

Errr…I guarantee you they used a few tripods, professional lighting, and most likely a steadicam.

A steadicam itself will cost you at least $2000.

Don’t be fooled here — the medium may have been relatively cheap, but a lot of the money will be going into production.

Only available light was used in the exterior scenes with the actors and no steadicam, just a slider with a camera mount, parts of a c-stand and a clamp to hold the phone. The smooth movement resulted from a couple of practice runs and using the best shots from a handful of takes.

um, maybe there was just less signal where they were…

if you watch the video it shows otherwise plus i’d rather believe the conspiracy. Life is too short.

It’s awesome to see at 03:29, how AT&T signal is completely gone. I guess she wasn’t holding it correctly. Great video though.

Nice video, lloks great! Funny though that if u are browsing BGR with your iphone you cant view it. FLASH Video. :(

I’m sorry, but I find it hard to believe that this was fully done on the iphone. Listen around 1:15 mark. Can hear the old man perfect, but I find it hard to believe that the iphone didn’t pick up any other of the ambient noises in the background (example: Cars driving by) In the Behind the Scenes, you can hear all these noises. I find it hard to believe that imovie can let you do voice overs, which had to have been used.

Title says shot and edited in iPhone 4. That does not preclude using a recording app to record speech in a studio environment then use iMovie to edit it in.

Nice video, very professional. It does show what iPhone is capable of, but the title of Flip video being scared is misleading. The flip video could probably due similar work with the additional aids, and the professional behind it, minus maybe the editing.

Next, it isn’t even really a fair comparison to begin with. Flip video cost <200, iPhone 4 from $199 with contract.
