OTA software update pushed out for the EVO 4G

Software

evo-ota-update

No real surprise here, considering we said this was going to be the case, but an OTA software update has been pushed out for the EVO 4G. No official word yet on what’s inside the 21.43 MB file, though if you’ll recall we were told it includes improvements to Wi-Fi performance, assorted ActiveSync enhancements and fixes, and a solution to the social networking sync bug which sees status updates hammer battery life.

…. nevermind got it. Installing now. It was under HTC update

I had an issue where anytime I powered down my phone I would have to take the battery out then put it back in to turn it back on. I was gonna exchange the phone for a new one but thankfully this update fixed the problem. Also, it fixed the ground problem and increased wifi reception a bit. Nice.

On the phone with Mother Sprint, they are aware of the problem. My CS agent is discussing with Tech Support. Will advise when I hear more.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS TILL THIS IS RESOLVED.

lots of you are saying it’s faster, did they fix the 30fps cap with this update?

I intstalled the update and my phone refuses to turn on, any suggestions?

    • wtr1906

Uh-Oh…..I hope you did not try and download the update twice, people are essentially ‘bricking’ their phones by clicking on the update a second time

      • http://BGR COMPADUDE

No I did’t do it twice I just downloaded the update then clicked install. now it I cant’t turn it on. I will have to stop by the sprint store to get it looked at. I feel like I’m missing an arm….

Just finished doing the update on my Evo. The phone does reboot SEVERAL times. I think it was at least 4 – 5 times. After the first couple I started to get nervous but let it run it’s course and it’s working fine now. I had one widget on my desktop that isn’t being seen, so I’m looking into that right now.

My phone rebotted then turned off. The screen just turned black. what should I do it has been 2 hours and I can’t turn it on.

      • Richard

I’d try pulling the battery to do a hard reset if the phone won’t boot.

WOW, after two hours on the phone with various levels of technical support at Sprint. They advised me that the HTC EVO does not support connections via WiFi so they can do nothing to bring my wifi feature back to life on this phone.

I am stumped at the stupidity of Sprint right now.

Where do I go from here?

    • Richard

Have you tried pulling the battery to do a hard reset?

      • http://BGR COMPADUDE

I tried the hard reset and still nothing. I hope the techs at sprint can fix this, if not I’m still within my 30 day window to return it and get another new EVO. Thank you all for your suggestions

Pulled Battery, Reprovisioned, everyone an intelligent Sprint user can do. Have an appointment at a Sprint Store in a hour with hopes someone there has a brain.

My parting comment with the “advanced technical support” gal was that in a few days when her brain is working again, she will realize how stupid it was to say that the HTC EVO does not support WiFi networks.

    Frustrating Day.

Did you root your phone? I’ve been hearing that only those who have rooted their phones and then try to install the HTC update have been having issues.

      • http://www.Wiscomm.com Wiscomm

        2 day old, non-rooted.

  • It was

Such negative feedback here, downloaded mine Evo doing great. Faster than ever , I love it…go to android central and see all the positive comments. Probably apple jerks

  • Evomine

Downloaded without a problem, fast as ever.

  • ANDY

the battery seems to be lasting a bit longer too…..

  • Triangle

Haven’t had any problems so far post-software update. Hopefully, it improves the wifi.

  • Luis

I UPDATED AND EVERYTHING IS FINE. IF U INSTALL DO NOT TOUCH YOUR EVO UNTIL ITS COMPLETE AND FULLY LOADED UP AND YOU WONT HAVE A PROBLEM..

  • Jeff

    Does Wifi Sharing still work?

  • jason

    It updated qik as well.

Dang it!!! My EVO is totally bricked. None of the Sprint stores in my area have new ones to replace it with. I was offered a refurbed EVO but I refused it.

I am quite disappointed. Actually, almost to the point of straight up returning my EVO. I never rooted my EVO. Add all of the apps on it came from the Android Market accept the app for Audible.com. Maybe the Audible.com app was the problem since was not in the Android Market.

I called Sprint customer care. They were helpful as they could be by finding a store with EVOs being shipped in almost daily; but I had hoped that they could ship me one over night or within a few days.

Fortunately, I kept my Palm Pre as backup and the I have a Google Voice number that I usually give out instead of my regular number.

Hopefully, Sprint will come through for those of us that have not rooted or done something funky to their EVOs.

BGR did a terrible job notifing readers of major upload issues. Unlike MobileCrunch who did a superior job. http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2010/06/28/sprint-kills-the-htc-evo-update-in-light-of-bricked-handsets/
    Shame on you BGR!!!!!!

DO NOT UPDATE more than once. The 2nd update will kill your phone. This morning I ran the application through SETTINGS and everything worked perfect. This evening checked settings for available updates… one was noted. Mind you this is 12 hrs. later… accepted update. Phone went through process… and now dead a brick. I don’t believe HTC nor Sprint pulled this update… if so… why was I able to see update for a 2nd time 12 hrs. later (10:30pm central). Called Sprint who is just becoming aware of this situation… their recommendation… take device to local repair center… Great! First one should not have to pencil down what updates have occured and 2nd… the phone should be smart enough not to acknowledge the same update again.
