Nokia N9 gets shown off on film

nokia-n9-video

We told you last week that we’d be seeing more of the Nokia N9, and sure enough, a short little video overview of the device was published today. We’re not exactly sure how much there is to be learned from the video considering we know that the N9 will never ship with S60 (the OS it is seen running in the film), but at least we have video evidence that Nokia still knows how to make a solid piece of hardware. Hit the jump to check out the N9 in action.

    • iHater

You’re holding your laptop the wrong way thats why you can see the video.@!

Do you need a bumper to make your laptop work properly?

  • Nokia Guy

I’d love to get it only if runs on Symbian. I;m not big on Linux or Maemo -.-

    • iFlossâ„¢

Dude its probably cuz you’ve never used maemo because my first time using maemo i was filled with jealousy knowing that I chose the Touch Pro2 instead of opting for a real powerhouse and getting the N900.

Dude Maemo is sex in an OS I’m dying to see Meebo. Meebo’s release and hardware that accompanies it is whats going to make or break whether or not i stay with Windows for their mobile division.

That phone is sexy too. I love it.

Very well built device. Like the little eject button for opening the key pad. Made out of all solid materials, keypad looks great, be great to see them go Android. We can only hope. They would sell a hell of allot of phones.

    • Eject button for opening the keyboard? Did I miss something?

Why won’t nokia just give up and run android? Doesn’t make any sense to give maemo or whatever it Is a shot when android is there, minimal work and you have a real smartphone. Nokia should take a page out of motos playbook.

    • Raul L

You have a good point there.

    • Nokia N900

Because Nokia has a little something called common sense. Android phones have about 5% market share, Nokia phones have about 40%. Why would Nokia make Android an overnight celebrity and bring them to 45% when they could do that with their own phone OS? And Raul stop encouraging him.

    • iFlossâ„¢

Dude Maemo is probably the most solid OS i’ve ever used for a mobile device. The misconception with Maemo is that since its not on tens of devices or the most popular OS doesn’t mean its bad. Maemo kicks android ass on any phone. The N900 vs the Nexus One I have to say the N900 is faster running maemo with 400mhz less of processing power.

Don’t make mal-informed statements because there are some of us who actually have ventured around and looked into what Nokia is cooking up.

They’re Number 1 for a reason, don’t underestimate the Mobile Powerhouse that is Finnish xD they will surprise you, i’ll tell you that much (regardless of if they gain commercial success in North America)

  • Raul L

I know I will be crucified for saying this but I like it.

  • Stephen

Gorgeous hardware. I’m waiting to see how Meego plays out, but seriously, Nokia just needs to start handing cash to the top 50 iPhone developers and have them start writing for Meego today.

If Nokia could complete with Apple’s app ecosystem, and Meego turns out to not be a half bad OS, Nokia could succeed.

    But they won’t.

    Dude, where’s the N9?

I think this will be something from the C-Series or then an iteration of the N8. N8-02 or something.

  • Nokia N900

    Trumps the iPhone…

  • Carl

    Oh nokia…

  • Mace

Nokia won’t take Android because it doesn’t want to be Google’s bitch. Look what happened in PC industry, M$ makes all the money, has full control and device manufacturers have very narrow margins. Exactly where Google wants to be. And Meego will be technically much better OS.

  • slipkornsaad

who told you that’s the N9? it’s a N8 variant (like the one with 32GB)…

  • AT33

Who ever thinks that is the N9 is freaking stuuupid! Either this is a Qwerty version on the N8 or it will be an E series. My money is on the N8-01 with a lower spec cam because the 12MP cam would make with Qwerty equipped N8 too thick. Nice looking hardware though!

The Nokia N9 will be a real multimedia monster, because it’s part of the N-line of Nokia.
Mobile phones within the N-line are capable of handling multimedia, like photos, videos, social networks and more.

But then again, I can’t seem to view the video that you are posting here dude…

  • D.J.

The phone itself looks deceptively thin and I love that keyboard. But then they turn the screen on and I see Symbian…

Is there any reason why Symbian looks like a featurephone OS from the late 90′s. I know looks aren’t everything, and Symbian has excellent memory management and all that, but Jesus Christ that is just not an attractive, modern looking interface.

  • DMG

I think it looks great! Nokia has made some of my favorite phones of all time (N95 prob. my favorite) and maybe this phone can put them back in the game again.

  • elinventor

nokia have 40% but is been late with delivery of new smartphone, that is why it been loosing global market, first to late for touch screen phone, them to late for real smartphone, they have 40% in global market but is for those little phone they sale in africa and latin american, but in the run for smartphone the are really behind, look motorola, was in the floor , where are they now, in one year, what happen with the last smartphone nokia put in the market n97?
    get your own conclusion.

  • Android is ok

Nokia doesn’t need to run Android. Worldwide Nokia is way more prevalant than Android and you want them to run it because here in the US Android is more popular. Please think people. The major smartphone companies know that to be serious about smartphones means to develop your own software and hardware. Nokia doesn’t want to run a fragmented OS that Google take all your information and passes it on where some devices get timely updates. Of course Moto and HTC are smart using Android…. that’s because they don’t do software they do hardware. They will be running Windows software too.

If this came to T-Mobile USA and featured UMA WiFi calling, then T-Mobile / Nokia would have a hit on their hands!

    =)

  • Mace

Nokia has 40% of world’s *smartphone* market too. Only part Nokia has been missing is the super high end. But that might change when it will bring 3 new OS on the market in next 6 months: Symbian ^3, Symbian ^4 and Meego.

  • http://mobilesmug.com/ Joe

N9 will have 64 GB internal memory?

  • http://alghienkad06.student.ipb.ac.id thea

    nokia oh nokia

  • Andrew

If the N9 doesn’t run S60 then what OS will it use?
