DROID X User Guide

Are you planning on picking up the latest Android offering from Verizon Wireless and Motorola on July 15th? Do you need more info? You may be in luck. It looks like the 68 page user guide for the DROID X has made its way out of the lab and into the wild. For Android fanatics the tutorials may not explain what you don’t already know, however, it includes a ton of screen shots and may give you a better idea of what Motorola has tweaked on the DROID X’s iteration of Android. Spent some time reading it last night along with the launch documents. (All on VZW forums in the Android section)…Pretty amazing stuff. Looking forward to getting one in my hand.

    BUYING IT FOR SURE!

Any idea if this baby has Gorilla Glass?

    • Andrew Munchbach

      According the Phandroid it is:

      http://phandroid.com/2009/12/22/motorola-droid-screen-protected-by-gorilla-glass/

But as far as I know Motorola/Verizon aren’t touting this as a feature of the phone.

So, i checked out the link, that was a write up for the Moto Droid. Not the Moto Doid X. The pic clearly shows that.
If it were to apply for the Droid X, it would be stated.

If you look at the date the article was posted, 12/22/2009, there is no way that anyone outside of Moto R&D would have released that info. History also tells us that info was not leaked.

Speed reading does not always provide for accurate memory retention or assimilation.

If you posted the wrong link, share the correct one with us. :-) mistakes happen.

        ***Embarrassment***

Guess I need more coffee, I thought I had read this somewhere. I’ll shoot Motorola an email and get back to you in this thread or create a new post if they provide enough information.

      • W

Thanks a lot Andrew! it’s been something i’ve been trying to find out since the first leak of it!

      • Andrew Munchbach

        Here is the official answer:

        ***MY EMAIL TO MOTOROLA***

I was wondering if you could comment on the use of “Gorilla Glass” in the DROID X. On Motorola’s original DROID they touted the use of Gorilla Glass to prevent breakages of the LCD, is this also in use in the DROID X?

        ***MOTOROLA’S RESPONSE***

        Hi Andrew -
DROID X uses the same type of glass as DROID. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

  • leanbarton

The funny thing about Gorilla Glass, is that it’s glass, and it breaks.

    • W

      So hold up here..

You mean regular phone screens don’t break either?
Last time i checked all of them can break.

It’s not like this thing is surrounded by glass like the iphone 4.

If Gorilla Glass is more scratch resistant i’m in.

  • ptb127

Does this thing have the screen where finger prints can be just wiped off the screen, just like the iPhone 3GS and iPhone have?? (I forget the term, something with an “O”)

    • OldNewOne

      oleophobic

  • Gary

Anyone want to buy an incredible..lol

  • TechoMan

Is this thing LTE? If not, I am gonna wait.

    • Heavyresq

Good question. If it is not LTE does it at least have the ability? Would hate to get phone to find in 3 months VZW has gone to LTE>

      • Kevin

Uhhh.. Verizon phones will work fine when the LTE switch is flipped… Its not like the phone would stop working

    • Andrew Munchbach

The DROID X is not an LTE phone.

    • Shumdit

No, not LTE. The sprint evo 4g is the only phone on the market at the moment that supports the new technology (4g, but not the same system as LTE).

  • tokyoSteve

    DROID X

  • Kevin

i have a deposit at Best Buy.. Cant wait to get this thing

  • firemanprice

@ Gary, I already sold mine.

  • Timothy

Haha this has been out a week. They released it when they announced the phone. Its been on androidcentral.com all week

  • Noah Contreras

If you were really a baller you would get the Droid X then if an LTE phone came out you would purchase that and sell the X. but oblivious you aren’t. I will tell you how the X is on the 15th Techoman!

  • Dream

Was going to purchase until I heard about the Fasnicate (V’s Galaxy S)

  • Noah Contreras

Naw man. The X will be better. I guess if you like a physical keyboard tho it would appeal to you.

  • blargh

Does it explain the proper technique for holding the phone itself?

    • ddade

      Haha… that was a cheap shot :)

    • Shumdit

With 2 hands if your not a professional basketball player or NFL quarterback!! J/K!

  • Electrofreak

I’m a contributing editor over at ABT and I’m friends with the guy who got that manual. Just ran across the article here (haven’t chatted with him in a few days), and he deserves some serious kudos. He works real hard to get the scoop on new hardware, and he writes some informed (and informative) articles as well.

Take a look around the website; you’ll find some good stuff in there. Maybe you’ll even come across my Hummingbird vs Snapdragon article from a few months back. ;)

  • AGOBOT

I hope this user manual explains why the HD video looks like ass lol. I preordered this phone and was hoping to eliminate the Flip Ultra but that doesnt look like it will happen.

  • Hazdaz

I would like to pre-order this phone, but as of Friday, the Verizon store wasn’t taking any.

I rather not buy it from BB, so wondering when the Verizon stores will be starting up pre-orders.

    Anyone care to guess?
