Lol, their reason for Apple’s greatness; “They’re not us”

  • Chris

Finally. I use and own Apple (Macs) and Windows Machines but usually just use a regular Mac with Windows via Bootcamp just because the Software works more fluent with the hardware. I Don’t like the design of the horrid computer prototype above but its a start. Windows 7 is a great improvement over XP and Vista since its a refreshed appearance, now with good hardware and prototype of Windows 8 I finally see myself using both Mac and Window Machines on an equal level.

I don’t know what you saw on this list of superficiality that makes you think that. Microsoft has been promising a faster startup for years and hasn’t delivered. Will they get a decent UI? Will Windows finally take full advantage of hardware resources like processor and ram? Will they get rid of the antiquated registry? How about at least that horrible Start Menu?

    • JohnF

The previz looks like a ’97 20th Anniversary Mac wrapped in fiberglass. Clearly a loser but bound to be a top seller with plastic surgeons in Beverly Hills.

Microsoft should give up trying to be Apple. They don’t have what it takes.

    • SlimJim

Agreed. If Microsoft tried to be Apple and succeeded I’d most likely leave Windows and go to Linux.

      • stickyd

you may be the only moron that truly loves Windows!

      • Ick

A moron who loves windows is better than a retard who can’t count the number of PCs vs Macs that exist.

    • Ick

      You do realize that

      A. The ‘modern’ Apple fanboy cares more about phones and music players than computers? and
      B. That Apple, regardless of what anyone thinks of their computers, is always playing catch-up no matter what?

  • Chris

Marketing. That’s the reason Apple is more successful than anyone else.

    • Jarrett

      You are an idiot.

      • coolrepublica

You are the idiot for not knowing that the majority of a product’s success is not due to the product itself but the marketing of it.

The greatest product ever, poorly marketed, will not succeed.

What Apple is extremely good at is making you think that their products will make your life better and simpler when they don’t. Nobody’s life is simplified by gadgets.

People who truly want simplified lives throw away their shit.

How in the world is MS not “marketed” enough or poorly? That’s all that’s been pushed down our throats since I was in middle school. Everything was catered toward Windows, but through great products, innovations, advancements and advertising, Apple was able to break the mold and finally make a name for itself.

I guess that’s why I countlessly see friends and others ditching their PC’s as soon as they have time to use and appreciate a Mac and other Apple products.

Bottom line, don’t hate. Appreciate the fact that there is competition to push each other. Otherwise, you’d have the same old, stale Windows OS you’ve had for the last 10 years. To say MS took some pointers and ideas and implemented them in Windows 7 would be an understatement!

      • coolrepublica

I am the most balanced person out there when it comes to Mac or PC. I am not ditching either. I have both. I own a lot of Apple products and a lot of Microsoft products.

Both companies are great at what they do. But word of advice tell your friends to stay away from Apple laptops. They brake easy. If they obsoletely have to had a laptop made by Apple they need to get a plan because they are going to need it.

Microsoft has a lot of shortcomings but so does Apple. But people who hate MS don’t realize how much the world owes them. I would never dream of a world where Apple won the PC war. It would be a horrible world. A world where only the rich can afford computers.

Microsoft makes it possible for a child in kenya to have access to computers and for people with little money to be able to afford their computers. Somehow I can’t see Apple giving away their software to manufacturers for 3 bucks.

When I buy a PC I know Bill Gate is doing something with some of the money to help someone. When I buy a Mac or an Iphone I know Steve Jobs is pilling up the cash and doing absolutely nothing with it. In a way buying Microsoft product is ethically better.lol

      • Ick

No, you’re right. And that’s why PCs are everywhere (because MS knows how to push a damn computer) and Iphones rule the phone market (because Apple knows how to push gadgets).

its too bad you fanboys can’t seperate what products made what company. But then again, if any of you actually knew what the word ‘logic’ meant, you wouldn’t be blind followers to ONE company like a bunch of fools.

      • JohnF

He has the right to his opinion. Whether you like his statement or not, he did not resort to name-calling….

      • maxpayne79

        haha…true :)

    • JohnF

It is more than marketing. There is genuine substance to the products. Apple hardware is not designed or built with a commodity mindset.

As for marketing, it should be noted that the booting of Jobs from Apple in the 80′s, followed by a decade of Apple’s brain dead marketing ,is what cost the Mac its former neck-and-neck market share with Windows. Like Gates once said, it doesn’t matter if the Mac is better, it all comes down to marketing. He was right. Considering his qualities of vision, drive and marketing savvy, if Jobs hadn’t been ousted by that Pepsi salesman of a CEO, the world of technology would be very different today.

  • Jarrett

Keep It Simple Stupid. Take care of your customer each and every time and they will continue to support take you up on products that they find useful to their lives.

I don’t own many Apple products (comparative I suppose) but each one I do own I use and on a daily basis for the most part. Each time I use the product it works. Very little to no up-keep and when I have had an issue in the past 12 years Apple has always treated me fair and even in some cases extremely well.

“Take care of the top line and the bottom line will take care of itself.”

    Pretty cut and dry.

    • Ick

Laughable… and if/when any of those products do crap out on you, see how well Apple takes care of you. I’m not saying they are any worse than anyone else, but they aren’t the saints you make them out to be. (I used to fix iPods as a side-project, so don’t even try to tell me they are quality products, I can make you a list of known issues).

  • Jarrett

……. and yeah, that is one ugly machine up there. Can’t tell by looking at it but do you suppose that the power button doubles as the RRoD on this thing as well?

  • coolrepublica

I would like to say that this computer in the picture is just hideous.

If that’s Microsoft idea of what they think makes Apple successful than they are blind as bats in Redmond.

  • General Zod

Do ya think Apple will have the stones to sue Microsoft if they copy any of the above?

    • Joe

If they fear the opponent might get the upper hand then the answer will be yes. Jobs will also have a speech to publicly take childish jabs at them… like when he said Android is only for porn, and that Google’s mantra is quote “bullshit”

  • Blackula

If this happens, what will happen to hardware companies like HP, Dell, etc. Many jobs will be lost or maybe they will chip in to help make the hardware Windows want them to be? Who knows………

  • ChechenTDG

    @coolrepublica,

Actually, Linux is what makes it
possible for people all over the world to have a computer. It’s open source, free, and it’s easy to use and intuitive. The world needs to adopt Linux.

Fascinating. Truly, while I know it wasn’t the point of the post at all, I couldn’t help but think how awfully complicated and dense the entire slide deck was! They can also learn from Steve Jobs on what makes a wonderful slide show without all those ble points! I was so distracted by the convoluted slides. Perhaps, they should buy a copy of Garr Reynolds’ Presentation Zen or Nancy Duarte in slide:ology!

I agree with your comment.. Only thing i like about apple is how the OS effects the battery life of laptops

  • Jane Seymour

IMHO, Windows Kitchen is passing along to the world what the future is gonna be. MS has lots of very smart peeps who have taken notice of how Apple’s success has come about.

So, like Apple, MS will design everything from the computer (desktops will disappear and will most likely be replaced by slates), to the OS, to the apps, to marketing directly to consumers. Meaning, all the computer manufacturers will eventually be gone, or at least, reduced to just a few that will build slates that meet MS’s rules.

The slate will be the computer of the future. Lightweight, all in one, with all the same capabilities of present desktops, in one easy to carry package.

Apple has already laid the groundwork with the iPad. But I think we’ll see the iPad being transformed into a full fledge computer some time in the not too distant future.

No matter whether peeps love or hate Apple, there’s no question that it has been the catalyst that will forge the future of how humans will communicate, learn and get information.

i like it…it looks like an imac spaceship thats ready for blastoff at any moment powered by win8 so u know it ain’t gettin very far, haha #damnimfunny Oh wait, this ain’t twitter. :(

I have checked Windows 8 plans that have been leaked.
Fascinating stuff. Not a lot of vision though, more evolution and “lets do more of what Apple does.” than “where do you want to go today” kinds of things. Sad really, but Microsoft is totally hunkering down between Apple and Google they are really getting pounded from a publicity point of view.
