Apple iPhone 4 gets early userland jailbreak

General

Jailbreak-iPhone4-Got-Root

It’s not like we didn’t expect this, but Apple’s latest handset has been jailbroken and root access has been achieved. This early stage jailbreak utilizes the userland jailbreak method and exploits a hole that has not been closed yet by Apple. Before you start dreaming of all the Cydia apps you can now install, the current jailbreezy contains remnants of Apple’s code and can not be released to the public. Also, Apple’s impending iOS 4.0.1 update may close the hole that is being used to gain root access. In the grand scheme of things, this achievement is really just a preliminary step in a several step process. Everyone will have to sit tight and wait while the devs behind the scenes work their magic on this latest OS from Apple, but we’re obviously thrilled at what’s to come.

God I can’t wait. iOS4 is boring as hell.

  • eddie b

Well its not gonna get much better.

Well the things that allows my jb iPhone to entertain me are the thousands of free apps and the themes that I can create. Keeps me occupied for a couple of hours a day.

    Steve had an intelliscreen app?

i love my i4, however it needs jailbreak no question

The only thing about iOS I can’t stand is how notifications work. It’s absolutely crap. Why they haven’t fixed them I don’t know. However a jailbroken iPhone with bitesms is beautiful. I’m patiently waiting on a jailbreak simply for bitesms.

If it didn’t have this stupid reception thing and they totally changed the way iOS does notifications, I’d be willing to say the iPhone 4 is the perfect phone at the moment.

I’ve never really gotten into androids thrown together feeling. Don’t get me wrong, there’s some amazing phones running it and it’s a very powerful OS. I just like the smoothness of iOS better. Anyway, my 2 cents.

      Yes, quick reply is lovely.

So the piece of crap drops calls and gets hacked awesome !

Multitasking on iOS 4 sucks so much.

    • kn

I completely agree. Backgrounder is so much better. I hope there’s a way to turn off Apple’s multitasking when we jailbreak. The only thing I like is being able to easily arrange apps in the folders. Something you can’t do with Categories.

iphone 4 has the new feature which is camera in the front side. That means i can make a video call. Also with skype, i can make a call for free to another skype user.

    • AEA

Not quite free,………..when using Skype you are still using part of your data plan.

Now, if you are in a Wi-Fi location (free) and you use Skype that way, then yes, it is completely free.

iOS4 multitasking kinda reminds me of the way BB does it. Also I like the fact that the only apps that run in the background are the ones “I” open not random ones that magically startup.

You don’t have to jailbreak Android phones to get them to do things… OH WAIT, you have to root them to get an update within a half year…

Man I hope that they come out with his soon. I’ve been jailbreaking since the original iPhone and my iPhone 4 feels incomplete right now.

  • Shane

1 bar of service imagine that…..

  • Rob90262

I would jailbreak just to use that app 3G unrestrictor for FaceTime wherever I go :)

  • John

it only jb iphone 3g, 3gs and ipod touch 2g.

    I have ipod touch 3g :(

  • izzle

he only has one bar of service in that picture.

must be holding it with his left hand.

  • Matt Thompson

Yay. Now let’s get an Android build on there to make the device functional.

They may have userland, but kernel is what is more important. Look at the security section here:

    Lol, already?!
    3 days after a release…?

  • CMC

Is it just me or is it really sad that you have to jailbreak and hack a device to get it to practically any level of customization at all…just to make it your own and do with it what you want??

    • Tim

If I had a dollar for every time someone said “make it your own” about an iphone… I’d be able to pay Bill Gates to be the soccer ball in the world cup.

Hi, jailbreaking and unlocking iOS4 on previous iPhones and iPhod is not difficult if you know what to do. Look for the Guides at http://www.ilovemyiphone4.com. Jailbreak on iPhone 4 has been done but release is not expected anytime soon, follow @comex and @planetbeing on Twitter for updates.
