U.S. Cellular Answers the Call for Cutting-Edge Phones

New phones launching through end of 2010 will include four Android devices

CHICAGO, June 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — U.S. Cellular’s customers have come to expect a reliable network, customer service and innovative programs like Overage Protection and Battery Swap, and now the wireless carrier is unveiling a wave of cutting-edge devices that will join its smartphone lineup this year.

U.S. Cellular is launching four phones in 2010 that run on the Android operating system, beginning with the release of the Samsung Acclaim on July 9 and the HTC Desire, with a vibrant 3.7-inch touch screen, 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, 5 megapixel camera and Wi-Fi, in early August. Another highly-anticipated Samsung device and an LG device with a large touch screen and slide-out, ergonomically-designed QWERTY keyboard, will be in stores in October.

“We’re excited about everything these Android-powered devices will bring to our customers,” said Edward Perez, vice president of marketing and sales operations for U.S. Cellular. “They give customers quick and easy access to thousands of applications, so each device can be completely unique and mirror their personal tastes and lifestyles. The phones will be a great complement to the popular BlackBerry® and Windows Mobile® devices that already anchor our smartphone line.”

The Acclaim is exclusive to U.S. Cellular customers. It has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard with a 3.2-inch touch screen, 3 megapixel camera and Wi-Fi.

All of U.S. Cellular’s phones running on Android give customers access to popular Google applications and will be pre-loaded with U.S. Cellular applications such as My Contacts Backup, City ID, Tone Room Deluxe and Your Navigator Deluxe. Customers can tap into the Android Market, a rapidly-growing catalog of more than 70,000 applications, most of which are free, to transform their phone into a lifestyle device.

The carrier will release the BlackBerry Bold in early August and later this year it will offer a BlackBerry flip smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard. U.S. Cellular is also releasing new touch screen devices like the LG Banter Touch featuring a 3-inch touch display and side-sliding QWERTY keyboard.

Customers who use their phones primarily for talking and texting also have a few new options coming their way: a dark purple QWERTY Motorola device with a unique square shape and a side-sliding QWERTY device from Samsung with a 2 megapixel camera designed for quick and easy texting.

“We’ve always believed that our customers deserve a wide selection of phones that fit their individual needs,” said Perez. “We hope our customers are as excited as we are about what we have coming up between now and the end of the year.”

    Who?

Seriously…the “who is US Cellular” jokes aren’t even funny anymore….get some new material.

    • FriarNurgle

To be honest this is the first I’ve ever heard of them. Granted my brain does have a few dark spots due to excessive oat sewing about 10 years ago.

    Oh yea…US Cellular….

    Dont know anyone with them.

  • Steveo

Us cellular is mostly in the southeast USA. They are a small CDMA carrier that will likely be bought by verizon just like alltel.

Another “know-it-all”. Go directly to FAIL.

    • SOUTHERN MISS ELITE

      Hey buddy….It’s CELLULAR SOUTH

And the odds of them being bought out is slim…they’re a private company who prides themselves on staying private.

US Cellular is not all that small, and is not mostly in the southeast USA. They are based in Chicago, & cover a large portion of the Midwest, as well as small portions of the Northwest, New England & Southeast. They are part of TDS Metrocom & will NOT be bought by Verizon. They are a company that prides themselves on their strong network, their superior customer service, and the unique & outstanding services they offer their customers….

U.S. Cellular? I don’t even know what they do. Nah, just kidding.
..what, are they like a bus or something?

  • Jay

    Never heard of them

If it’s not Verizon, AT&T, Sprint or T-Mobile, I usually stay away

  • Nunya Bizness

Will that Samsung Android be the Galaxy Pro ???

That’s the Sprint phone I’m waiting for.

  • MicroNix

Actually US Cellular was an excellent carrier when I had them. Never dropped a call or had any issues with customer service. I dropped them because they’ve always been more expensive and their selection of phones always blew compared to what was out there on other carriers.

Forgiving all the “Who?” jokes, can BGR at least update their stock image of the company logo? The slogan has been “Believe is something better” for 3 or 4 years now. Sheesh.

And they’re in the Midwest, not the South.

  • Ryan Brancel

Ever heard of the Chicago White Sox? They play at U.S. Cellular Field.

US Cellular is a good carrier. Their coverage in the Midwest trumped anything 5 years ago. Verizon is the only one to catch up. I left a year ago because their phones have always been behind.

Those who haven’t heard of them are probably coasters who live in a small world.

I live in New England and I have had US Cellular for almost 11 years. They are cheaper than Verizon and have superior coverage here. I get free incoming calls, text messages, and picture messages, free calls to and from anyone else on US Cellular, and free nights and weekends starting at 7pm (Verizon’s start at 9pm!) I can drive from NH (where I live) to Bangor, Maine (where my mom lives) and never lose service or drop a call. Customer service is excellent, I have never had one problem with it. In my area, you get more bang for your buck with US Cellular.. They used to get kind of crappy phones but, that has changed in the last couple of years and they have a pretty nice selection now and are due to release some android phones in the next couple of months. I would highly recommend them if you live in New England.

i live in Eastern North Carolina and uscc has the best coverage in my area. uscc doesn’t mind putting towers in rural areas where they are needed. verizon and att just don’t have the rural coverage that uscc has.
