Clearleap to bring on-demand cable TV to Roku

Folks on the fence about a Roku box may be swayed by the news that Roku is teaming up with Clearleap to bring on-demand cable TV programing to the video streaming platform. Clearleap is a growing company that serves as the middle man between cable, satellite and telephone companies that have on-demand content and video streaming services like Roku that want to dish up this content. This arrangement would allow Roku users to purchase on-demand movies from their television provider via their Roku box and have all charges tacked onto their monthly TV bill. That’s definitely great for those with more than one TV in their house, and could also potentially allow television providers the option to offer the Roku box as a cable box alternative. Roku’s move towards providing traditional video-on-demand content is still in its infancy as no content providers have currently jumped on board. But if and when this on-demand service materializes, Roku owners will only have to download an update with the on-demand application to activate the service.

the author is wrong. amazon on demand services are available on the roku box today. I get nervous through the box but there are many channels available. amazon is a paid service as well as netflix and the ufc channel but there are many others like facebook that are free. get your facts before writing articles- I am referring to the latter statements in your article that states roku does not have paid services through it and the service the article is about would be the first.

Amazon does indeed offer an on-demand service though Roku. In fact, they offer the best in my opinion. You can watch things that you can’t find anywhere else. I just finished watching the first season of The Vampire Diaries on Amazon though Roku in HD. Can’t find in anywhere else, not DVD and Netflix doesn’t even have a release date for it yet. They have a lot of other things that you can’t find on DVD like all seasons of Kathy Griffin, My Life on the D-List. If you can’t find something then do a search on Amazon, (Digital Downloads/Video on Demand). They’ll probably have it albeit expensive in some cases. Vampire Diaries $52.62 + tax for HD (but worth every penny in this case) or $38.99 for Standard Definition. You have to associate your Amazon account with your Roku box of course but its a relativity simple process.

I’m such a newbie, but I would like to know if the Roku box will allow you to search for, then stream FREE cable TV shows (Rescue Me, Real Housewives, Mad Men, etc) — from the websites of these channels or shows (FX, Bravo, AMC, etc)? And if not, how would this be done?

I know Amazon, Hulu, etc have most of these seasons available for purchase, but I also know that the channels have some of these episodes available for free too. I would like to find something with the capability of doing both (streaming free and purchased shows/movies).

    Please advise. Thanks!
