UK received a meager 16,000 iPhone 4s, Vodafone and others already sold out?

Rumor

uk-iphone-4

While the US is now in full iPhone launch mode, those closest to the International Date Line have long been enjoying the hype of the iPhone launch and the resulting shortages that are associated with such demand. One of the first carriers to officially announce that it has sold out of its stock is Vodafone UK. A bright orange message on Vodafone’s website confirms that the carrier is plum out of iPhone 4s and is not expeingte to be replenished for a few weeks. This may only be the first of several carriers in the UK to sell out as it is rumored that entire region only received a meager 16,000 handsets. Shortages are reported at O2 and even some branches of Carphone Warehouse and Phones4U reportedly never received their iPhone 4 shipments. Anyone in the UK enjoying a bright and shiny new iPhone or are you still waiting in vain?

    WTF does “expeingte” mean!?

    • Kenny

Wow… that’s like NOTHING. Well… if you cant get one… there’s a lot of good reasons NOT to buy this phone: http://briefmobile.com/should-i-buy-an-iphone-4

I mean, there are pros too… but at this point I’m not sure this device is worth the title “best smartphone ever.”

Here is a breakdown of what my city got – Dundee, Scotland

    O2 (Murraygate) – 70
    O2 (Overgate) – 100
    Vodafone – 7
    Orange (Murraygate) – 1
    Orange (Overgate) – 7

The UK is about as far away from the International Date Line as you can get.

International Dateline, Prime Meridian, same difference. They’re both just lines on the map, that are 12 hours apart.

    That cant be true.
My rep at vodafone said they were getting 25,000 alone.
Still not a lot but definitely a lot more than 16k

  • Paul Cargill

16k seems such an underestimate to be honest.

CPW got 16,000 and about 30% of the estate got it

I took my blackberry into our carphone warehouse on monday for repair, and the assistant manager just found out the company was getting just under 7500 units, and he was expecting about 8.

I would like to win an iPhone 4 so I could give it to my mom. She loves her iPhone currently and I know she would live to have a new one. Thanks.

I have a friend in Apple working as marketing manager and he says that no country got less than 150,000 iPhone 4 for launch weekend.

I dont know what all the fuss was about. I went online at 12:30 (lunchtime) on launch day and bagged myself a 32Gb Iphone 4 no problems at all. It was delivered to my door on the 24th no waiting in line! sweeet.

Which website was this? I fear you speak with forked tongue … in other words … I call BS

  • dee

That’s marketing give a few out. They sell. All sold out……

    Create hype …….

But don’t hold the iPhone you will lose signal

Got mine direct from apple unlocked and delivered early on 24th without having to put up with the queues.

At last, I dont have to be stuck with same carrier and using abroad will now be a piece of cake.

  • Lukasz G

    Wow thats a fail…
Does it mean that the UK phone market is bigger than the one in US?
Or just not enough iPhones were sent abroad?

  • CFreeP0

Not BS Benjy, just went onto the Apple Store in UK and ordered it. I did try all of the Uk mobile stores first thing in the morning and they had no info. I heard the Apple website was down too but when i came home for lunch it was up and running!!
