That iOS 4 reception issue is looking more and more like a software bug

ios-4-reception-issue

Much fuss has been made about the iPhone 4′s reception woes, but the evidence continues to mount that suggests the problem is purely the result of a bug in the current build of iOS 4. As proof, a YouTube user has posted a video of his iPhone 3G, held in a similar fashion as the iPhone 4s in the YouTube videos we showed you yesterday, losing signal strength as soon as it is clutched. As this did not happen with iOS 3.0, this suggests a software bug which affects the signal meter the user sees. Even more interesting is the fact that despite displaying a weak signal — and in some cases no signal at all — many users report that the iPhone 4 is still able to make calls as if nothing were wrong. Hit the jump to check out the video then give us your thoughts!

Silly early adapters, serves you right ;-)

I have an early adapter, it turns anything plugged in to it late. If you’re going to try to insult people at least use the correct words.

Here’s a wee bit of advice for you; It’s better to let people think you’re stupid than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

    User error? Design flaw? Neither.

So many people are totally unaware of a thing called “manufacturing error”.
(Apple does not manufacture *ANY* iPhone. Never has. Never will.)

The simple reason why 1000s of phones have this problem… and 100000s do NOT:

The company that builds the phone (not Apple) let a small number of phones slip through quality-control inspections.

*ALL* iPhone4s should have an insulating coating on the antenna…. but a small percent of them were accidentally shipped without it.

Here’s an instant 3/8″ solution for a few cents at your local store:

I think that is the most bullshit response to a serious issue ever officially issued by a company. “Don’t hold it in that way” are you fucking kidding me? In my hand? what do you propose steve jobs, why don’t you bend your cancer ridden ass over and I’ll shove it up your ass and see if the signal problem persists you prick.

Everyone is debating on whether this is a hardware problem or a software problem ….Has anyone thought it might be BOTH !!! O.o

Personally I wouldn’t be surprised. There are plenty of videos on Youtube proving that it is a hardware issue while others show that the reception problem has also been seen on the 3G or 3Gs iPhones with the new iOS4

With that said, I’m pretty disappointed… the Apple is getting rotten…

I saw the same signal drop on my iPhone 3G for the entire two years I owned it, regardless of iOS level. I assumed it was the result of my hand blocking the signal somewhat. I have also read reports that this issue appears on other phone models, including Android and Nokia phones.

I got the iPhone 4 last Thursday on the day of release. I used to get fairly regular dropped calls inside my home, due to the concrete block construction. I have not had a single dropped call yet, anywhere inside or outside my home. None. Zero. I think the new antenna must have fixed the problem.

This is the best smartphone yet, by far. All of this hysterical shrieking and whining is just some people wanting to knock Apple down a notch to make themselves feel bigger.

By the way, the number of bars displayed is not important. The reliability and quality of the call is what matters My iPhone 4 shows fewer bars than my 3G did, but the call reliability and quality is far superior..

When I hold my iPhone 4 in said mannor and the signal drops to one bar, my data connection completely stalls. I get 0 up and 0 down. Being that the antenna is a digital antenna, software could probably fix it.
