EVO 4G to get a software update on June 28th?

Exclusive

htc-evo-4g

We’ve not yet independently confirmed this, but one of our Sprint connects just dropped us a line to let us know that Sprint is gearing up to push out a maintenance update for the HTC EVO 4G. Said to be targeted for June 28th, the fix is said to address three things:

  • Improvements to Wi-Fi performance
  • Exchange Active Sync improvements which include a fix to issue including new account set up, PIN policy usage, and Exchange Server 2010 Calendar Sync
  • Addresses Social Networking Sync issue with Facebook application which can improve battery performance

Thanks, S.!

Hmm.. I’m hoping to see more focus on battery life. It’s not terrible, but could be better.

    what about the Incredible?

    FRO YO

Wish the address book would stop giving me the option to land-lines. Not sure that this is EVO or Anrdoid’s doing though.

  • Kevin

Sorry, that last post should say that the address should “…stop giving me the option to SMS land-line numbers…”.

There seems to be no way to filter this info out? Any one have any ideas?

    • ginny

Not sure how the EVO would know that its a land line number especially since porting was made available there is no distinction. Maybe if there were a way to flag the number so it wouldn’t show up in the list? You can SMS a land line it just sounds like a robot talking on the other end…

      • Doofus

Uh, when I set up the contact I say whether it’s a home, mobile or business line. It should only give me the option to SMS a mobile line.

  • Drew

You EVO guys might get it use your phone now without caring around car battery to charge it every 20 minutes!

    • General Zod

      HUH???

    • seven5suited

It is good to hear that HTC is listening to its customers, few things left to fix, the fps is one, launch Froyo.

  • dilip

    We need Android 2.2….

Any chance that there’ a firmware fix that could solve the tremendous battery drain when using 4G or is that just a byproduct of the chipset used? I can’t believe how awful the implementation of this flagship feature has been.

    • jerbear

Wimax drains battery. It’s just how it is. So does EVDO. So does Wifi. So does Bluetooth. Manage the capabilities of your phone in such a way as you balance battery use with performance…just like you would for a laptop or any other battery-dependent device.

What about a fix for the 30 fps issue?

    • Matt

      what 30fps issue?

[sarcasm]Havent you heard that is by design and a hardware limitation according to HTC.
      [/sarcasm]

Lets limit our flag ship phone so older phones perform better..excellent!

Even iPhone is not without problems, bottom line there is no perfect phone. Just enjoy what you have.
I am sure all issues will be solved.

    • Celz

Really if you think your phone is perfect pinch yourself.. Your either dreamin or dead

  • wang

@ kevin ..that is not an issue or problem. If you are new 2 Sprint. Included in your unlimited messaging plan is the ability 2 send text 2 landlines. Sprints network actually calls landline and user on the other end gets greeted by automated voice system that reads your message, they can even reply to your message.

    • Andy S

That’s cool to know. I’ve had Sprint for 6 years and had never tried that.

Not sure I’d ever use it, but still cool…

    • Mitch Cumstein

Holy crap! I can’t believe I never knew that after nearly a decade on Sprint! You learn something new every day. Thanks.

  • Get Android Enjoy Freedom

Yeh i just found last week, my wife text by mistake her cousin and didnt see she txt her home line, cousin got a voice saying the txt mess.

  • Sal

Phone already works beautifully for me without any issues.

    • sprint4life

Same here. Anything you don’t like just look for an add-on in the Android market.

  • wtr1906

I hope its 2.2! My battery life is actually pretty normal. I can get thru the day on 1 charge and that’s with some talk, lots of text, and lots of web surfing on 3G

  • Frank

The only thing it will fix for sure is being able to use the WiFi hot spot for free with WIMAX.

  • wtr1906

EDIT: I guess I should have read the article first SMH

  • AJ

I have been getting a full day(24 hrs) on a single charge for my Evo the last two days. This is witth normal use. I mostly use Wifi while at work, I make a few phone calls and have been using qik and the fm radio. My battery drains when I use bluetooth gps and the camera alot.. Which is normal for any phone, I mostly turn them off unless I need to use them.

  • Steve

Anyone have an issue with the Android market app crashing after installing this update?
