Now here is my question: Why do I need 2gb of additional data when I buy the $20.00 hotspot when I already have the $29.99 “unlimited” data plan?

AT&T, did your marketing guys start moonlighting at vzw???

    • Shumdit

They answered my question while I was typing my first reply, but the At&t/vzw question remains. If android guys don’t expect apple guys to rag on them for this detail they are delusional. I have a feeling the battery is going to be an issue since they are already telling us the phone they are putting on sale on 7/15 will be improved I. A few months in this regard. Why not just ship it with the larger battery from day one??

    • Pka

The unlimited data is only from the handset. WiFi hotspot data is only 2 GB and is counted separately from the unlimited handset data.

    • Read it

Read the article: the 2GB is for tethering your computer.

    • James

We’re lucky we are still getting unlimited data from Verizon anyway, seeing as at&t has discontinued unlimited data.

Usually these two carriers copy off of each other. Ex. Verizon gets unlimited minute plan for 99.99, at&t gets unlimited minute plan for 99.99. Verizon gets friend and family, at&t gets friends and family. Verizon gets 69.99 unlimited plan, at&t gets 69.99 unlimited plan.

It seems to me that at&t copies Verizon, fortunately for us Verizon doesn’t seem to want to copy at&t.

  • netposer

Why on earth charge $10 per GB for hotspot coverage when the phone has an unlimited data plan.

I’d rather have 5GB for $30 and then pay $10 over. And it should not matter how I use the data.

$20 more per month is just greedy.

  • Geo

Unlimited data- that’s a direct shot at AT&T and their new data caps. Wonder if they will reconsider their capped plans?

    • Blog Retards 4 Life

Yes, most definitely. Clearly sales are being affected. What with iPhone demand only 10X last year’s….

      YOU ARE A RETARD

  • Jake

unlimited” data plan, On the Phone you do.

You figure you should be allowed 5 devices as an all you can eat affair for 29.95?

    lol

  • Shumdit

Only 9 minutes for Q&A?? Is Obama and Tony Hayward the ones taking questions?

  • JoeBold

    highlights.
    A
even if your contract expires Dec 31, 2010 you can grab 6 months earlier the jewel.

    B
    truly unlimited data 29.99
that should do the jumping ship much easier, big blue fellas.

    C
true. real. multi media phone. period.

this is in my opinion a game changer.
the downside? not LTE capable yet. that means, be ready to shell out the FRP for a LTE version when its availeble in your city, for some folks, it could be the end of this year! OUCH!

    • Shumdit

Joe, current AT&T smartphone customers will have the same option and that’s millions of people. I do agree about the LTE thing, but apple guys who wanted a 4G ready phone are in the same boat pretty much, so it’s hard to fault motorola/vzw on that.

  • drew dogg

Wow! I love my incredible but this phone is making me consider stealing my son’s upgrade and giving my incredible to my wife… I think id defently have to see the “toned down” version of MOTO blur on this bad boy before I bite the bullet.

  • http://www.phish.com rambo

stone 23, netflix’s selection is complete garbage. i dont know why anyone would pay more than one dollar a year for it. blockbuster on the other hand is known for its huge selection. so i think you should be happy about that.

    • sorphin

blockbuster > netflix? don’t make me laugh.. i have netflix and never have issues getting movies.. whereas blockbuster.. never has anything in stock.. whether at a store or online.. and no, new releases don’t count.

      • WRONG

Netflix’s selection of streaming movies are absolutely horrible.

  • Giorgio

I love how you guys make such a big deal about the unlimited data. Regardless of carrier, who gives a shit. I wish I had as much time on my hands as some if these tools that use over 2GB of data on their phones.

The only exception is those whole justifiably use over 2GB for work/career purposes. To them, it isn’t fair. To the rest, get a life. Go hit the gym up or go outside and get some excercise. Over 2GB/month = contributing to the obesity problem plaguing this lazy ass country.

Waaaaaah. I can’t steam porn all day because of my 2GB cap and I can’t get a girlfriend because I’m spending all day on my phone wasting my life.

    Livestrong or die.. FTW… Lames.

I can’t wait to see this get down ranked by overweight slobs.

    • Whaaaaaaaa

Honestly, this has to be the worst comment I have ever read on this site. YOU sound like a complete fool.

      • Giorgio

Hey bud, truth hurts some times.

      • Whaaaaaaaa

Hey chief, you need to upgrade your brain matter.

Did you ever hear of streaming Pandora in your car? How about Grooveshark? I used 4 gbs last month while streaming on the road.

I think an apology is in order. ;)

      • Giorgio

Apology? What for? You used over 4GB. So either switch to Verizon or Sprint if you don’t already have them. You’re the extreme minority of smartphone users. If you have AT&T, then pay the difference for what you use if you don’t already have an unlimited plan with them. If you have an unlimited plan with them, move on with your life and stop whining about how it’s some kind of atrocity.

Such is life. AT&T wants to charge you for for overage. In my opinion, it’s a smart move from a business stand point considering the vast majority of smartphone users on their network won’t be effected in the slightest. That extra $5-$15/month price cut is bringing in a lot more smartphone (existing AT&T base and new) customers than its repelling.

    • Orga

You’re absolutely right. No one streams a significant amount of audio while doing other things. No one streams video.

People only surf the net on their phones, and only for a coupler of minutes at a time. How the hell could you go over 2GB?

  • Bring Home The Wopper

Is the Wireless hot spot optional or do you have to get it?

    • Jake

It appears as it’s an option, at least thats the idea I get from it.

  • Caffesilvia

Netflix has an incredible selection of streaming movies! It’s so good that we never even order physical discs.

    • Whaaaaaaaa

Netflix has absolutely the worst steaming movies ever.

  • LOLcat

This phone is a big disappointment. I don’t want a 4.3″ diagonal screen. Completely ruins it for me. Where is the droid 2 announcement? This behemoth is not going to be a phone for the masses IMO.

Motorola needs to get their lineup together. They have one gigantic phone and one normal sized phone with a hardware keyboard. I want a moto phone to compete with the incredible/iphone/nexusone form factor.

Also, battery life mentions? Fuck iOS4, the killer feature of that phone is going to be its battery life.

  • StevenGlansburg

Seems lackluster to me. But I’m really dreading the thought of At&ts poor …everything… this phone will get the job done for me, but I have a sinking feeling the battery is going to blow like all android phones and not even come close to the 38 hours of actual usage engadget reported for the iphone 4.

    • JoeBold

right at this point in time, Apple is the leader in batterylife.
but remember the Droid 1 has better life then the HTC, and battery issues were primarily by HTC phones. not MOTO.

  • Perspective

Horrible, horrible marketing. . .of all days, the day before the iPhone 4 launch? Do they actually want to be ignored? They succeeded! I just flipped over to the NYTimes tech page, and the lead story is- you guessed it-an iPhone 4 review. Then, buried down underneath “GigaOM” is a Droid X related headline, without so much as a photo.

    Good job, VZW/Motorola/Google.

  • Ken

    “98% penetration rate in Enterprise.”

Hmmm…guess there is nothing else to do while flying through space.

I wonder how the other ships in Star Trek rated.

  • Swagger

If you think paying $30 for unlimited is worth it then, wow.

    Sprint and Tmo ftw.

  • Get Android Enjoy Freedom

Does Motorola have exclusive with Verizon?
I have not seen a good Motorola product on Sprint in long time, did they have a rift or something?
Both EVO and Droid are good solid machines, and it will give more choices to the people, all is good long it takes people away from iPhone.

    • ryan

You little Iphone hater!!! Iphone is the best phone ever made! PERIOD!! evo and droids screens fall off because they’re cheap!! Go get you some Retina display OK!!

    • Blog Retards 4 Life

Yes, most definitely. Thanks for summarizing how much followers of this blog actually know about the business.

      YOU ARE A RETARD.

  • JayWill

Where the heck is the retail price of this thing and when you can start preordering.

  • JAG

    Liveeeeeee thanks BGR!

  • TONY

I think I read, DROID Doesn’ext, baha. Why purchase these phones when we all know iPhone kills these phone on any Market, even VZW zombies want an iPhone on VZW.

Go look at all the Crackberry users pouting to Apple to bring one to VZW.

Droid is just a heavy machine, that drills hard, but can’t get the job done, while iPhone is the heavy machine that has all the tools, and the Diamond Drill for making the whole twice as big as VZW anus.

    Take that!

    • ICueAv

what job cant the iphone get done that Android cant?

      • ICueAv

no edit option so mind the typo…

      • Blog Retards 4 Life

        oh I don’t know….about 200k apps worth.

  • Blog Retards 4 Life

I absolutely love how they steal even the presentation style/format of Apple.

    Pretty sad, really.

  • Creasi

Ok so there’s a quote that says… “1:45 PM: Anyone who has an upgrade in 2010 can upgrade with the full subsidy”…could some please explain what exactly that means?

    Thank you!!

  • Creasi

    Could someone explain**^

  • Simon
