Dev-Team jailbreaks iOS 4 with PwnageTool 4.0

Short and sweet was the amount of time it took the iPhone Dev-Team to jailbreak iOS 4, at least as far the previous generation of Apple iHardware is concerned. Adding to yesterday’s release of redsn0w beta, PwnageTool 4.0 was set free this afternoon and promises to jailbreak/hacktivate devices provided a specific set of criteria are met. If you want to get really fancy, you can also use a special version of ultrasn0w to unlock your iPhone, but again, this is dependant upon certain things being just so. We’ve got everything you’ll need to get the job done queued up, so don’t be afraid to hit up the jump get get started. Happy jailbreaking!

    can any1 tell me what are the specs on the iphone 4′s bluetooth. can it send and receive files via bluetooth from and to other mobile phones? is the iphone 4 doesnt have this then its an epic fail.

      It’s people like you who shouldn’t go near a keyboard. Fail? How is this a fail? It took a VERY long time to have an untethered jailbreak for the newer 3GS/iPT3G.

    Old news. redsn0w worked fine for iOS 4, before PwnageTool. Since the latest copy is the same thing as the GM, it probably didn’t take more than a few minutes to crack open.

      It’s not exactly the same as the GM, but i agree that it likely took a short amount of time to do

    No it just means that 4.0 under the right conditions can be jailbroken. Not sure if have one yet for the new hardware and it lists which device can and cannot be at the moment.

    The OS was jailbroken, not the phone itself. Unlike android with 66 or so phones, several different versions of the OS, several versions of custom OSs, the iphones all use iOS. Though it should be pointed out that a 3 year old iphone can’t handle some features of new OSes like android phones released every two weeks can’t support new OSes that are released every quarter.

      What the heck are you talking about? The software is what enables access to the features of the phone. It sounds like you just wanted to rant about android more than understand what rooting/jailbreaking means.

    so when will us suckers that “upgraded” from a jailbroke 3.1.2 to an unjailbroke 4.0 be able to simply “break” it like blackra1n did back in the day. OR, better yet, how do we go back? no mms is b.s. and my maps aren’t working…

    Question, i bought my 3GS in july of 08 with the old bootrom, i jailbroke with purplera1n for 3.0 and blackra1n for 3.1.2, i jailbroke with 3.1.3 using spirit, could i theoretically downgrade my os to 3.1.2 re jailbreak with p-ra1n then use pownage tool????
