Android OS 2.2 build FRF72 is not final, Froyo still percolating

A leaked version of Android OS 2.2 (Froyo), build number FRF72, was thought by some to be the final GM candidate of Google’s latest mobile operating system. Well, Google employee “Ry Guy” dropped into the official Google Android support forum — in a thread titled “when will be available the Nexus One update to Android 2.2 Froyo?” — to let the following be known:

Just dropping in to let you know that the FRF72 build that is floating around is not the official update. The Android team is feverishly working to get a final version out the door, but like passion-ate has mentioned this will only happen once a release candidate meets our quality criteria.
Since today is the Summer Solstice, we know things will be heating up a bit so hopefully Froyo will be on its way shortly. Thanks for your continued patience!

More fixes and tighter quality control is always a good thing, but we do kind of want the final version, like…now!

freaking fix the wifi not reassociating itself after going to sleep. fix that and you will be ready to go final imho. it’s RIDICULOUS that this is an issue this far along.

      LOL ! WTF ?!

They already fixed it in the FRF72 patch. So your wish has came true. Been using it for the past two days and the only problem I had was that none of the thumbnails on my gallery will load. I’m using the nexus one. Any help?

The wifi problem is not fixed. Actually, I wasn’t having this problem before this build. It randomly shows up no connection when it’s on. It’s annoying.

      @ Kyle.

Nexus one 2.1 update1: No problems here! reassociates all the time, even hidden SSIDs. Also has started automatically switching from carrier data to wireless and back again. At this time I have no wifi problems. If only I could access wireless N!

Fixing the built-in Exchange email app so it doesn’t ‘self delete’ itself every couple of days would be nice too.

My guess is they’ve been waiting for Adobe to finalize and release Flash Mobile.

I’ve been running Froyo on my Droid for 2 weeks now and it’s great (Wifi works fine). No one uses stuck Android Exchange email, get Touchdown exchange from the Market it’s perfect.

    • Dave Brown

Yes, I did give up on the built-in a few months ago and went to TouchDown, very happy with it. It would just be nice to see something in the technology world actually work as advertised for once!

  • StevenGlansburg

so wait, you need to jailbreak (i.e. root) android to get it to work right?

    • ReadingIsHard

      Reading is hard.

Some people wanted the 2.2 beta so they rooted to get it.

As far as I am concerned everything works just fine without root.

      Reading is difficult isn’t it?

Rotting is not required to get 2.2 on a nexus one. The builds that are floating around can be put on the root of your sd card and flashed via the normal way. However, if you want froyo on an evo rooting is required.

I just got my Nexus One not too long ago…where around the net is the premier source for learning how to really get the most out of it…I want to learn about rooting and so much more…tips?
