Just like their non-digital counterparts, eBook readers may not be the most exciting product in the world, but there’s good news this morning for anyone who loves the smell of newly printed downloaded eBooks. Barnes & Noble, the retailer behind the Nook, has not only dropped the price of the Nook to $199.99, but it also announced a new Wi-Fi only model which retails for $149.99. Apart from a lack of 3G, the only difference between the two models is that the Wi-Fi model has a white back (as opposed to black) and weighs half an ounce less.

Never said that before, but it seems to be some thing some people are obsessed with doing.

So is huffing metallic paint out of a bag but it doesn’t mean you have to do it…

I wonder if this is the start of an ereader price war. A $149 price point is a huge advantage over the Kindle. It may be low enough to finally draw in some people who were not buying a dedicated reader because of the price.

Like the Libre Pro for $120 or Kobo for $150 from Borders? Interesting thing about the Kobo is it sync via BT and download books wireless through your mobile device. Pretty nifty. Tho neither of those are store branded FWIW and B&N and Amazon seems pretty committed to their devices.

At this point, they making it hard not to go get one. These prices are Birthday gift and Xmas gift prices now. Good job!

The nook 3G is the way to. It has the best price point for the most advanced dedicated e-reader & you basically get free internet for life since it includes free AT@T 3G service through it’s built in web browser. Neither Kindle nor Sony or anyone else can even touch that!

$99 is what they SHOULD cost.

If Kindle match the price, I am getting it right away. (The Kindle)

…and Amazon fires back and made the Kindle $189 immediately. Wow.
