iOS 4: Smooth as silk or buggy as hell?

It looks like the rollout of iOS 4 isn’t going as smoothly as Apple would like. Even though the majority of comments we’ve come across have been positive, we’ve been getting a steady stream of bug complaints from readers ranging from extremely trivial to very serious. Many of the bugs remedied easily enough, but some of them seem to have no workaround. Here are the most pervasive complaints:

  • Photos synced with iPhoto turn are extremely blurry
  • Gmail ActiveSync is no longer functioning (no syncing of email, calendars and contacts) Update from BG: This probably has nothing to do with iOS 4.0 and more to do with Google being overwhelmed.
  • Update deletes all contacts, and backups will not restore them
  • MMS no longer works
  • Push notifications not functioning
  • Auto-lock is set at one minute and the option to change this is greyed out
  • Update fails and device reboots endlessly

Have you experienced any of these bugs? If so, then we’d love to hear from you. And while you’re at if, if you know any fixes, don’t be shy to help out your fellow man.

Thanks to all of our tipsters!

My partner and I both own an iPhone 4 and BOTH of them have an irritating issue of reverting the set time to one hour forward. So the clock can’t be trusted – just like Apple!

wow, looks like alot of peeple are having issues with os4… well im currently on 4.0 jailbroken on an ipod touch 3G 32 GB(so i have the 3Gs hardware) and the only problem i have wirh it is tht scrolling through pages if apps is choppy. But i found a quick fix tht if u delete the files tht makes the shawdow under the app icons, then itll make a perfect os. Silky smooth and everything. Well at least for me. But i found tht disabling the shawdows make it look not as good so i put back the shadow files :/ .

Then after i put back the shadow files, i found out tht if u have no apps running in the background, scrolling through apps are as choppy as hell. But wen i have a large app such as eliminate pro running, “hey no lagg at all wen scrolling through it!” Wtf? Shouldnt it be the opposite? Looks like ios 4 is truly a multitasking-only os >_>

My problem is different: I purchase media from iTunes via my phone. It has always worked great. After the OS 4 install my songs and video downloads and I am charged for them, but they do not show up on my phone. They are not on the purchased list or anyway in my iPhone/iPod. Anyone else having that problem???

I have had several problems with iphone 4 and have had the phone replaced 3 times by Apple.

    -apps crashing
    -phone stuck in restore mode
-reception disappearing and phone calls being dropped regularly

Thats on 3 different phones.. yes there are periods when the phone works relatively perfectly but I’m sorry Apple you need to go back to the drawing board with iphone 5 because I’m slowly being pushed away from this unreliable device and am looking at alternatives
