Dell and Google working closely on Chrome

Although Dell has never appeared that enthusiastic about Google’s Chrome OS, the Texas-based company does have plans for the Google netbook OS. Amit Midha, the head of Dell’s South Asian division, told Reuters on Monday that Dell is in fact working with Google on the OS which is set to begin rolling out this fall. Although Midha wouldn’t get much more specific than that, it certainly seems possible that we’ll see Dell be amongst the first companies to release hardware pre-loaded with Chrome. As Midha put it, when it comes to Chrome, Dell wants to be “one of the leaders.”

    The headline should read “Dell is Using Google to Leverage a better price for Windows”. While we may see some limited Chrome devices from Dell I think this and other leaks like this are more about negotiating with Microsoft to lower the per unit price of Windows. Sort of like when we all though Linux would be the OS of choice for netbooks.

    Google = Skynet

    But eff it…I will support them nonetheless!!

    I wonder if these units will ship with Chrome Office Suite, which is lackluster, but still worth it since its free via web. And, hopefully the OS isn’t matched up like the underpowered Acer Laptops running Windows 7.

    Boy, Google is really scraping the barrel with asking or agreeing to Dell as a working partner. Dell’s on its last legs.
