T-Mobile's Father Day promotion yields highest activations ever?

Exclusive

We haven’t been able to independently confirm this one, but a T-Mobile tipster tells us that T-Mobile had the largest number of new activations on Saturday for their promotion. Every phone was free with new activation and 2 year agreement.

Our store was jam packed surprisingly full of Verizon customers wanting to port. Never seen so many Verizon customers wanting to port in one day.

If DT can only get their hands on the iPhone we’d be slammed all day long. I’m pretty confident DT with over 150 million customers worldwide will be able to pull this off before years end. ;-)

And we’ll see how many people have second thoughts upon signal quality… go by todays number if you want, I’m interested in 24 months from now.

Went by 2 T-mo stores here in Kansas City and they were packed! There were lines out the door!

    @insomniac

all carriers use data (aka interne) to send mms fool. Cmon lets be real here.

But… This is def a puff piece for tmo and even the comments get rated that way.

Stopped by a T-Mobile store in the Long Beach/Lakewood area, and they were pretty packed. I was actually surprised. I thought this sale would be a flop without a good high-end Android phone, but boy was i wrong.

    @ Insomnia:

I can concur. Both my parents use BlackBerry 8900′s on the new EM + plan without any data add on and they can still send/receive MMS.

I know T-Mo got rid of that BlackBerry enabler feature but apparently it’s no longer needed.

  • legendkbizz

Most of sprints plans includes data so your argument is pretty invalid.

As saying they use the actual internet to send pictures, I believe your information is so 2006 because all of my message for the past three years are already in the message its

  • Kyle

Who uses MMS? It’s called email.

  • Baghdad_azz_up

As a former t-mo. customer, I’m very happy to see this! The company is making moves in a big way if they can stay on the same customer satisfaction oriented track that they’ve been on.

With the new iPhone just around the corner, t-mo. needed a great promotion like this and I wish the company nothing but the best.

I live in Chicago, so yes, I have 4G. I’m glad I don’t live in Nebraska. I understand the EVO is an HD2, minus the antiquated Windows Mobile and with a larger battery,

Also, Sprint MMS may require the internet, but it’s free with a data plan. Unlimited texting and MMS costs an additional $20 on AT&T, irregardless of your plan.

Again, MMS is for children. Most everyone I know sends pictures via email as attachments.

  • Nick

ummmmm…. a little hostile? dont be mad because you work for the #4 wireless provider. Where i live, we dont even have a tmobile store) but you can send mms with out a data plan on sprint. before jumping someone elses shit for being wrong, make sure you are not wrong.

  • CAWKPATROL

4G is available in 40 cities now and more by the end of the year

    • jaymax

      “4G” with 3G-like data speeds…

  • cheese

not true. that store did a little over 100. Woodbury had the most with 157. nice try tho

If AT&T and Verizon gave away everything for free the lines would be much longer than they were at T-Mobile stores. But then again AT&T and Verizon don’t have to resort to such tactics to gain new customers. As a former TMO employee it is sad to see how management has run what was a great company into the ground. T-Mobile now has literally give away the store to get new subscribers.

    • JUSTaOBSERVATION

on the comment about t-mobile giving away the world to customers, it was a one day promotion, and I fail to see how having a great sale is much different than Verizon BUYING their customer base (think altel acquisition) All of the companies mentioned are in the business of making money, a ONE DAY promotion like that, whether you believe it or not, makes a lot of business sense. It generates publicity and contracted over 100,000 new customers who will be paying monthly bills for the next two years….so hmmm….seems like a good idea to me…..

“If AT&T and Verizon gave away everything for free the lines would be much longer than they were at T-Mobile stores. But then again AT&T and Verizon don’t have to resort to such tactics to gain new customers.”

Yeah, Verizon only spends an unprecedented $150 million to advertise the upcoming Droid.

And with that they sold about 150,000 in a few weeks.

T-Mobile spent hardly anything on the Free Phones promo and they sign up over 100,000 customers in one day.

Do some research before posting your drama queen comments.

  • Kyle

Haha I’m a former Cubs fan. I can’t stand either team at this point. I’m a rabid Hawks and Bears fan (and always have been).

Sorry about the “childish” comment. I just find that most of my friends have phones with internet, and all have access to email, and with the large images produced by 5MP – 8MP cameras, they are far easier to send via email.

  • Kyle

If you did your research, you would know that T-Mobile is sitting in last place.

    • MichaelSF

And if you did YOUR research you would know that the ONLY AT&T, Verizon and Sprint have more U.S. subscribers than T-Mobile is because each company gained millions of subscribers via mergers and acquisitions of other wireless companies.

It certainly was not because they are better companies.

I buy a few wireless companies that includes 15 to 30 million additional subscribers, of course I am going to go up a notch or two.

Besides, the other carriers do not have subscribers outside of the U.S. T-Mobile has a WORLDWIDE presence and WORLDWIDE it has over 145 million wireless customers.

TMOUS is a “division” of DT, it’s not a separate company. So legally TMOUS is a worldwide company and is bigger than others.

And to get a more accurate picture of TMOUS/DT you should compare its market capitalization with Sprint, for example. DT/TMOUS is a $60 billion company.

    t-mo sucks

How can you refuse buying a BNIB HTC HD2 for a penny.
    I didn’t so now I own a BN HD2 :)

  • anonymous-x

Maybe a 2 year gig but look at how much money was saved buying the phone for a penny…
